Questions regarding 16 2SS features
For background information I've got a 2SS M6 with dual mode exhaust and magnetic ride control suspension.
1. How exactly does the NPP exhaust work? As far as I know, there are valves that open and close, (at the muffler?) that activate at a certain point. What exactly engages these valves, speed, rpms? 2. What is the difference between turning traction control off and turning stabilitrak on? Also, what specifically changes on the car whenever you activate these features? 3. Does anyone know what EXACTLY changes with each drive mode? 4. How does the magnetic ride control work? To be clear, I'm aware of the general functions of these features, but I'd like to know more specifically what happens and how they work. Thanks |

1). There are valves on one exhaust tip on each side of your dual/duals that varies in openness based on the mode your car is in and the RPM level of the engine. Tour and Ice/Snow should have the least amount of actuation compared to Sport and Track, unless you override their activation in the MyLink screens. I cannot provide more than that, as I didn't opt for this on my own car.
3). This is actually listed in your owners manual in Drive Mode -- It's a table that's also been posted on here a couple times. Now, as for the absolute specifics of what damping in Track vs Sport means, or the percentages throttle application translated to engine response. I can't answer. 4). There's tons of information available to you from a quick Google search for Magnetorheological damper (that's the formal name for MSRC or Mag Ride). This will give you access to the most basic stuff like "it works with fluid and magnets" to the complex stuff like flux lines, shear thinning, non-Newtonian fluids and such. There are various input systems that talk to the various control systems on your car and that then will "tell" the shocks how much field strength to apply to the MR fluid which will change its viscosity and make it easier/harder to flow through the piston channels which results in changes to how easily it gives under load. |

3) Depending on whether you have MRC, Auto trans, and NPP, the drive modes change throttle response and steering wheel effort at the minimum. If you have an auto, then shift points/firmness would change. NPP, then exhaust valves....MRC, then suspension setting.
I don't remember if traction control level is changed between the modes but maybe someone else can confirm that.

Also, just curious; If you can leave the NPP exhaust valves "open" via the MyLink customization, then why do some people actually pull the NPP fuse?

The NPP exhaust valve works by rattling constantly even after numerous attempts to repair.
