I wish! If the Z06 was in the budget it would be a complete no brainer. Mid $60k is about all I want to get into. Even that means having to actually plan my budget.

All of them are great cars but they are both so different in many ways and not just the 2 vs 4 seats! We can discuss long and hard about the advantages of either a two seat sports car or a 4 seat torque monster but really, that is not what your post is about. None of that really matters here. Your post is not 'Which one should I buy because it does X better?' - it's about getting others to validate your desire to buy the Camaro for you ahead of the Vette for her.

So - what is the MOST important factor for you and even more importantly, how important are HER priorities to you?

She likes the Vette; your initial discussions appear to have been about her dream car being a Vette not a Camaro; you rented a Vette (not a Camaro) and drove to BG to see the Assembly Plant and the Museum (not the Lansing Grand River Camaro Plant); YOU brought up the idea of a Camaro after what seemed like it was established that she was going to get her dream car first; and lastly, how many times do you want to hear her say 'Yeah honey - it's nice but you KNOW I liked the Vette'?

And, even though you are asking this on a Camaro forum, even I know that if you buy the Vette your life (and your future wife) will be happier.

Do the right thing and buy her the Vette. You KNOW it is what you should do for relationship bliss - just re-read your post. Or, you can try and justify putting yourself and your wants ahead of hers (Don't do it!) and pay the price.

Good luck.
Excellent point! The answers, including mine, seem to be what each of us prefers, but if the wife wants the Vette then the discussion essentially ends there. Do what makes her happy!

I have to 100% respectfully disagree with this. If what kind of car you buy has any appreciable effect on a relationship, then that relationship is way to materialistic to be healthy. My wife doesn't care what I drive as long as it makes me happy and doesn't adversely affect our lifestyle in a monetary way that we can't afford.

I'm not saying a Vette is the right or wrong choice, just that I don't think the above should be a reason.

OP, who would be driving it more? Will it primarily be her car or your car? And like others have stated, with a 5 and 6 year old, you never know when you'll need 4 seats without knowing it even if you have other cars. I would say do what's best for the family, and not just you or your fiance (as mentioned above). It sounds like your fiance is thinking of her wants over the possible needs of the family. What if the kids want to go on a fun ride in daddy's or mommy's sports car too. I used to love hoping in the back of my parents car when I was a kid. For a kid who loved cars, it was good bonding time.

Thank you for your quote but I think you totally missed the point of my post - it is not at all about the car/material things in any way. It was about who gets his/her way and that is about control of the decision.

There wasn't anything in the OP's post about his fiance caring about what HE drives so that is irrelevant.

I definitely agree with you about the fun of taking the kids etc. I took my sons with me to many car events and a million trips to get ice cream, etc because I did not have a Vette - I had Camaros, Firebirds, Chevelles, 442s, etc - all with back seats. Those memories are absolutely priceless! One of their fondest memories was the time I did a nasty, gnarly burnout in my '69 Hurst Olds! Great stuff. And if the OP's fiance is saying/feeling that, then she will make the choice to eliminate the Vette.

However, she is not.

But - if the decision was all the OP's to make, then there wouldn't even be this thread or their discussion would there? IF his fiance didn't care what the next car purchase was, this thread would have no meaning because it really is not about the why in this case, it is about who gets what they want.

As you read, that is not HER argument to take the kids etc - it is the OP's who wants the Camaro. She clearly prefers the Vette.

Good luck OP, either way!

I 2nd the part about the backseat for the kids. Could produce life-long memories. Vette is my personal favorite as well, it's the styling and fun to drive factor. I do understand the dilemma, however....
IMO the new ZL1 will be much more car for the money at 60k. It's has its own menacing look, and will run away and hide from a base C7. You really win either way tho op. 1st world problems lol. Congrats on which ever way you decide. Me and the wife are compromising on a ZL1 A10 Vert as I'm a manual guy. But I'll take it

I know this is a Camaro forum, but please TRY to give your honest and UNBIASED opinion. We would test drive the ZL1 and C7 (again) back to back before pulling the trigger.
Test drive the ZL1 again? How did you test drive it to begin with when its not even out yet? I'm sure you don't mean a prior gen one since you listed the HP of the new 2017 one.

Get the corvette for every reason your wife mentioned. Not only it being her dream car. You will never hear the end of it. I assure you. You can always pick up a ZL1 later, but making dreams a reality should always be first. I'm the perfect example. I have always wanted a corvette, and when it came time to purchase I decided to get the camaro cause it has a back seat. You know how many times I've used that back seat in 3 years? Twice. Now I have other things coming up, and buying a new car is probably on the back burner for ten years. Not to mention if she is already struggling to fall into the corvette now, she certainly won't want to do it when she's older. Get it now, get it done, and when she's tired of falling into it, you can use that to buy the ZL1 you want for the extra power.

I was just gonna say that.

Either way, you got yourself a winner (talking about the wife AND cars lol) I hear of a lot of guys saying their wives break their balls whenever they want a car or some vehicular toy.

If the price is about the same, then ZL1 all day every day. If the ZL1 is $15k more than it's more complicated.

And here it is.

I got my wife the convertible Lexus she always wanted. A few (looong wait) years later, I got my C7.

Now, looks like she wants to replace her Lexus with a 'vert C7. Win!

My girlfriend and I share cars and they are all purchased and insured by me. The bottom line question is who is going to drive this car the most? I owned a C7 and loved it, but it had some downsides for me. Insurance was way higher because it was 2 door. It drew a lot of attention and because I am usually in a hurry and driving fast I didn't need the attention. I'm back in a '16 Camaro and love it. It drives very similar to the C7 but doesn't get all of the attention. I would much rather have the ZL1 but I have not seen one for sale yet....
