Hi guys. I'm jammed at work and haven't read all the replies yet but wanted to quickly let everyone know that the dealer called me just now.

They were not able to install the spoiler. Everything that they were told was true when they lined it up, so they did not drill any holes and aborted the blade install. I will be getting the spoiler via the option they agreed to once the grey LT car arrives.

More details to come later...sorry I have to be short. Thank you again to everyone for their advice.

If I'm reading this correctly, my order of a 2SS with blade spoiler (5ZU) and TPW of 4/11 will be made with "replaced with (D80) decklid-mounted lip spoiler when (5ZU) Blade spoiler, LPO is ordered"; as a result, by the time my dealer receives the car, they will be able to swap out the blade spoiler without the center stanchion hole issues of the SS wing - correct????

I wonder if newer ss's will come with the 2 stanchion spoiler like we saw on some prototypes? That would eliminate the "whole" issue.

Here is are the bullets Laborsmith probably wanted to us to see:
  • Exterior section-(D80) Spoiler, decklid-mounted lip spoiler, updated availability on 1AJ37 1SS and 1AK37 2SS to "A2" with a footnote 2 that reads "Included and only available with (5ZU) Blade spoiler, LPO."
  • Exterior section-(D5Z) Spoiler, rear stanchion, added a footnote to 1AJ37 1SS and 1AK37 2SS that reads "Replaced with (D80) decklid-mounted lip spoiler when (5ZU) Blade spoiler, LPO is ordered."

Here's a simplified translation:
  • The decklid-mounted lip spoiler (i.e.: the default spoiler that comes on the LT) will now be available as a factory-installed option on the 1SS and 2SS, but only if you've ordered the blade spoiler.
  • The stanchion spoiler is replaced with the deckled-mounted lip spoiler when the blade spoiler is ordered.

It's basically two different ways of saying the same thing: They will begin shipping the 1SS and 2SS with the LT style lip spoiler pre-installed. The decklid will therefore have the proper holes drilled into it for the dealership to simply uninstall the lip spoiler and swap it out for the blade spoiler. I would assume this is to minimize the amount of work they need to do. Otherwise, if it came with a LT decklid and no spoiler at all, they'd need to drill. Make sense?

Hopefully someone steps up and makes a blade that rivals the GM one

So I see LesBaer just took delivery of the car and posted pics in another thread with the stock SS wing present. Out of curiosity, did you decide to leave the car as-is, or are you bringing it back to the dealership when they get a donor LT in Nightfall Grey to swap its decklid?

No, unfortunately for blade-spoiler fans. The two-stanchion wing/spoiler was an early prototype...for their own reasons, the third stanchion was added to improve the function.
