No way. There is too much differential in weight and aero car vs car, even if the ZL1 does manage to get another 20HP or so.

And those hero runs in a supposed 'stock' 5th Gen ZL1 with mid-11's are just that. Hero runs on A6 cars. MOST G5 ZL1s ran a 11.90-12.00 sec 1/4 - at BEST.

We ZL1 fans can daydream, benchrace, or even speculate all we want but horsepower to weight and pure physics are impossible to overcome.

And I am a definite fan of the new ZL1. But I am also a realist.
While I don't disagree with you entirely, I will say that you may be wrong. HP/weight and aerodynamics say a hellcat shouldn't be as fast as it is, but it still puts a hurt on everything around it. I understand roll races and drag races are different, but honestly the only difference is driver skill. Drag races are MORE about the driver and LESS about the car. Roll races are MORE about the car and LESS about the driver. I've seen the hellcat in both forms take down LT4 Z06s and CTS-Vs. The videos are all over the Internet. Can I validate them with absolute certainty... No, but with enough of them available it certainly does seem to show that the hellcat defies all the laws of the Car Gods.

I sat around this weekend thinking about my SS sitting on a dealer and almost called them at lunch today to make up and buy it. Luckily I came to my senses and started looking around online. Have you all looked at the Z06 prices lately? You can buy the 1LZ brand new right now for $73k (list price on kerbeck). There are also so many used Z06's out there - tons of them for sale used. If you had your choice of a used one year old Z06 1LZ vs. new ZL1, most people are going to take the Z06 - except for hardcore Camaro fans. The C7 got the big looks update, will be lighter and handle better. You'd also be missing the first year's depreciation. That's huge...it's like being paid to buy the Corvette. correction 1.9% financing right now if you go new on a 2016...0% if you find a 15.

All true...except the ZL1 is equipped like a 3LZ Vette. Also, insurance is higher (different class), practicality is reduced, and GM has been making running changes to the Z06 since the first cars came out and had some heating issues...

I still don't believe the '17 ZL1 will be advertised with equal or more HP than the C7 Z06. My guess is the final rating of the Zl1 will stay at 640/640 but just like we're seeing with the Gen 6 SS and C7 Stingray, it may dyno with a few more ponies than the Z06.

I dont know about this, with the new ss running high 11"s with 455 hp , i would hope with a 185 more hp it should run low 11"s with ease ,like its been said before ,it's how the power is put down that will be the main factor, and who knows how the new A10 trans is going to affect things, but we will see,and i cant wait

If Corvette guys can't abide a Camaro with more advertised powered, how do they feel about the GT500 and Hellcat? Chevy can not hold the Camaro back without dooming it to third place.

The power figure isn't important as long as the car performs. The new ZL1 already has some stiff competitor acceleration benchmarks from the last round and they aren't standing still.

(Possible correction...the GT actually did go backwards...but it's cheap...and Dodge has no money)

Because I am interested on peoples opinions and inputs, as stated by the thread title. From my own Experience I am dead even with a LS3 C6 in straight line acceleration. Was just wanting peoples inputs thats all

no worries, it was just weird to me that you posted a question and then kinda disappeared. I hope the members provided what you wanted.

What I've seen on a track so far is 7.92 @ 92mph in the 1/8th mile which translates to a 12.43 1/4 mile. That isn't half bad really.

I am sure to some Vette guys that does have a role, but I think its more about the top tier camaro can not/will not/ should not outperform the top tier Corvette. If teh Z06 stays top dog vette, I think it would be a safe bet that the ZL1 will not be faster.

Now if that forces another Corvette ZR1 then all is good in the world lol

The Hellcat has more hp than the Viper.

I'm glad that GM isn't trying to wim the Horsepower War.
They choose to win the Performance War.
