WTF were you thinking GM?

Has anyone climbed under their V6 and seen how their factory cats are installed? I was under a V6 Camaro at my local Quaker Steak & Lube and there is a bracket bolted to the transmission in multiple points and then welded to each catalytic converter. When you replace them it is going to be a real bear to do. I like my 5th gen V8 better. You have two bolts at the manifolds and one bolt at the exhaust and you're done. What were the engineer at GM thinking for these new cats other than big bucks for the service dept.

This would be interesting to see if anyone has any upside down pics of the new car?

Don't the new V6 use manifold in head design? That might be part of the reason. It's just a consequence of how that area of the exhaust has to bolt-up, clearances, etc. and they may have been trying to keep the engine/trans mated to the exhaust in that fashion to help with any vibrations or metal/metal contact if there's slack in the exhaust. There are other cars where metal/metal contact in that area can cause some sensors to register false-knock.

but, I'm just grasping here because I don't have a V6 and nor have I looked under one.

it's not supposed to be easy to replace your cats because you're not supposed to replace your cats. So there's no surprise there.

Lots of things on cars make you think they were purposely designed to require dealership work to service even things that actually require service like the infamous cylinder 8 spark plug in the LS1 4th gen camaro.

yes the V6 is manifold in head.

Whether it is supposed to be easy or not, it surprised me. My 5th gen cats were a breeze to replace when I installed headers. These things would be a royal PITA!

Just watch that episode of How It's Made...lots of stuff they're doing looks so quick and simple but that's because the car is in pieces.
