ZL1 Addons Front Tow Hook license Plate Holder

Came a day earlier.
I got the Tow Hook for later use to leave in if Ohio drops the front plate law(will re-powder blue thou), but the plate mount appears to use the shaft from the tow hook.
The Plate Plate Holder comes along with - an extension, 1 Allen bolt, 2 internal locking star washers and 4 bolts & nuts for the plate.
My hardware looked a little different then pics on their site.

Anyone else unable to see these pics? I signed up because I'm stuck in exactly this quandary (front plate) and I am thinking of going the zl1addons route.

Did you have any issue getting this installed? I've been looking at the tow hook hookup on my SS and it looks almost like I will have to cut part of the grill out (aka not happening) to get one of these in.

on the SS a section of the grill comes out for the tow hook.

On the RS, it went just above the piece without touching, that you have to remove for the factory tow hook, since factory tow hook is a bigger diameter, not sure on the SS. But the diameter of the shaft is about the size of the threads.
So if you can straight shot look at the threads without seeing anything between the threads diameter and where your looking. then it will clear.

Something i would say about it thou. If you don't want the tow hook part, If you know of a local machine shop. Buy the plate holder from them and take measurements on the distance from the threads on the cars tow hook mount, to where you want the plate to be(add 3/4" for threads).
Then go to a machine shop with the factory tow hook and have them take a steel shaft and put the same type threads of the tow hook on one end(about 3/4in of threads) and then have them bore and thread the center of the other end for the bolt to mount to the plate.

Just remember, you have to remove the plate to unbolt the plate holder to remove the extension to put in the factory tow hook. If you get their tow hook, you still have to remove the plate to remove the plate holder to screw in their tow hook. So plan for it(having tools to remove in the trunk), so you can get it ready if ever need towed, otherwise, i think the tow guy will charge for the labor if he has to remove it.

This sounds confusing, I guess bc I haven't seen the kit. This isn't just a simple screw in license plate bracket? Bummer

Yes i guess i did make the last part sound confusing by over explaining.

They are using the tow hook location to mount their tow hook, which you can unscrew from their extension and then screw on their plate kit.
So you have to screw in an extension to create a bolt-up location out further for a plate holder, the bolt would be behind the plate for the current location of the plate in the pics.
So no direct access to that bolt once the plate is on. Unless you drill a hole in your plate to match.
But then you have no holes drilled in you car.

Here is their shaft without the plate on.

I was mainly just giving an option for someone to create their own extension for the ZL1 Addon License plate holder, without needing to buy their tow hook kit if you did not want it. Because their plate kit does not have the main extensions, it requires the tow hook kit.

But either way you go, you are using the tow hooks mount location to hold the plate, so if something happens and you need towed, you would have to remove the license plate to put the tow hook in to pull it up on the roll-back.

See the Hole in the plate holder, there is an angled bracket welded behind the plate holder(see the 4 weld marks to the left).
A bolt goes thru that hole, into the bracket and then thru a spacer and screws into that extension from the tow hook kit.
