I was thinking the same thing, deciding between a 2SS and 1 LE than saw the LT1 , told myself 640 HP like 200 more than the 455 I was already happy with? the problem is they make those higher end cars look even cooler and more menacing that's what draws me , but you can use them if you know your city and know your highway patrol patterns, I know plenty of people in the LA area who took out there exotic at lightning speeds on the back roads or late night hwy

LA area. I live in America so nobody can tell me what I need but me. I need torque and I need some toss you back in seat gogo. I need this type of power in my daily driver. I live in LA and get to rip some nice pulls regularly to keep me sane, put a smile on my face, and cheer me up on bad days by changing lanes only using throttle.

I need that power it's never enough, especially with how much easier it is to drive big power cars than it was not long ago. That zl1 will do DD better than any fourth gen for example.

I cant speak for the 6th gen, but the 5th with 700-750 to the wheels is perfectly streetable, as long as you don't do something stupid. At that level you do need to be mindful of throttle application. The chassis can handle it easily with no worries. Tire will be the limiting factor.

That said my local shop is running his 5th gen Z with twin turbos and puts down 1300 to the wheels. It is his daily, and so far has not broken a thing.

I hope for the 6gen Z buyer that they provided a bullet proof as a package that they did with the 5th.

Or like in the 1980's... thinking...those were the days. I am thinking the latter.

I suspect at a point the Insurance Lobby folks will start leaning on their puppets to pull back the reins on power levels. It really doesn't matter that a person has a million horsepower so long as it is used responsibly. We live in a time when street racing is just plain ignorant. There are too many people on our roads (soCal) from too many countries who shouldn't even be behind the wheel of a car. Period
Some high performance cars with staggering horsepower numbers move much too quickly from one spot to another to risk some idiot coming from nowhere into the path of an accelerating hotrod and the results are sometimes fatal for the unsuspecting person. Not everyone who can afford high horsepower has the experience or brains to use it. We are typically fearless when young and ego rules out common sense and abilty.
Been there done that and it's a miracle I lived through some of my antics.
I currently own a Chevelle with a 900hp n/a 565 big block (real number) and there is zero chance I'd risk mashing the loud pedal anywhere other than on a track. Ain't going to happen, don't want to kill someone's kid and sure as heck don't want to damage an American classic SS car. So, it doesn't really matter how much power you have, what matters is where, when and how you use it. Enjoy it while you can but it will not last, "educated people" hate that you are having fun.

How much is enough? Ask bugatti, lambo, ferrari, koenigsegg, pagani etc. Ferrari sold people cars they couldn't take home and multiple 1000hp street cars 10 years ago was crazy now they come standard with more. Not to mention places like UR will take your measly 700ish hp aventador, TT it and and give you 1300hp on pump gas. My wife want's to put a 6.4l in my jeep. I don't see the point. To each their own.

I had two different Corvettes while I worked in Europe during two tours of duty. The first was my 1982 with 205 HP as I recall and bone stock it ran about 150 mph on the autobahn in 1989. The second was a C5 with decent bolt ons in 2004 which would run better than 180 on the autobahn/autostrada. I drove this one about 18 laps at the Nurburgring and needed more HP. I guess it might have been making 400 hp.

Literal road races up and down Alpine mountain roads was a regular thing against BMWs, Mercedes and Porsches and trust me, neither of these cars had enough HP. For their era, I could have used at least another 100 hp. In America today, we have the HP, but there's no where to use it, but another 100 hp would be about right for me...lol.

I personally feel that the future for big horse power isn't looking good, at least not in big N/A engines anyway. The EPA and other environmental whackos will see to it everything has to get cleaner and cleaner and burn less and less gas. So, for big power to still be offered it's probably going to be in the form of turbo 4cyl and 6cyl engines.

Isn't it so much fun ripping those basic 911 and BMW in LA!

I agree.
Even if I don't use it, just to say I have it is awesome. More people these days are more concerned with dyno numbers than how fast the car actually is.

The dyno is a tool and nothing more. The dyno is used to break in an engine and dial it in before it ever goes into the car potentially saving alot of work if something were to go awry in the build process. Yes, spec'ing a build with a certain power in mind and achieving that goal is rewarding. The final tuning always takes place on the track but that's where the entire car comes into play. You can truly achieve whatever goal you want but use the tools along the way which help you get there.
