Not sure but I know neither my wife nor I would be driving a car with a CEL on and a malfunctioning trans in the rain at night. Best of luck OP.

Wasn't trying to be a dick, be safe. If you have a friend or someone with a OBD dongle and a program like torque or a scan gauge you can pull codes yourself.

it's going to a different dealer asap..last time they had it 2 days..reset /cleared codes and sent it out without any clue.. but once its resolved will share what was found

I noticed when your wife put it into manual mode the ± to the left of D didn't light up. Isn't it supposed to? I have a manual so I'm not familiar with the A8. I highly recommend purchasing an OBD-II scanner.

it didn't light up or show gear number under speedo beside drive mode icon, it points to a electronic problem...it gose back to normal after restarting car.. im not scanning or taking any of it apart tho...lol warranty problems

Scanning just shows you the code for the CEL, it won't do anything to your warranty. That can tell you what's going on. That being said, you definitely want to take it to the dealer.

Looks like some sort of "limp home" mode where some features of the transmission are disabled. I agree: best to take it in.

this will be second time going in... and of course cel is off and all is normal today... im just sharing the strangeness...i was told it is also been a issue with newer gm trucks
