True on the old rumor part. But the new one seems to have some teeth. As the current rumor goes, the new mid-engine C7 (some odd test mules have been spotted) will be a completely separate high end model (a different vehicle) that will be offered alongside the current C7. It's designed to compete with the soon to be released Ford GT. The C7 is already known to have a short production life, so the speculation is the C8 will be completely mid engine. This leaves the Camaro to be the sole remaining hi-perf RWD car (also rumors of an AWD CTS-V coming) to carry the mantle. Seeing how GM is rushing out the performance Camaros so soon, one wonders if the TT V8 will eventually make it's way to the Camaro to compete with the upcoming GT500 or perhaps they will save it for the 7th gen Camaro?

The one thing the ZL1 "should" have in its corner this time for once is the weight advantage. Given it wont be 4000+ lbs this time around, it should easily overcome a 57 hp deficit from something like a Hellcat.

Hopefully its not overpriced. I wonder if it will make the used C5 ZL1's a lot cheaper since people will be trading them in which will increase supply?

Regardless of what it is I think it will handily best a GT350R. It will be a slaughter at the strip and a nice win at the track. Will be waiting until 12:01 am for official release.

I had a 2014 GT500 and it was one hell of a car. Unbelievably powerful, the acceleration was outrageous. As cool as it was, it was not very confidence inspiring. It's incredible what they were able to accomplish with that solid rear axle. The car handled great actually. It was terrifying and you always felt like you were gonna spin wildly out of control when hitting a bump on a turn, but it never actually happened. It just felt like it was gonna happen. It was an awesome car, for sure.
I drove a C6 Z06 planning on trading the GT500 in for it. After test driving the Z06, I drove back home in my GT500. |

Who even knows when Ford will be coming out with the GT500. 1 year, 2 years? GM wants to get there share now and thats why they are bringing out all the performance models for 2017 MY. Good for them and smart.

I believe that you are wanting a NA engine for Z28...right? On that, I think it is quite possible they start with a ZL1 and add a "Track Pack" and call it Z28 ala GT350 to GT350R. This becuase we don't know of an NA engine that would go in it - now if they are developing an NA, then that would truly be awesome for the next Z28 - I'm just not sure if the last Z28 was a sales success, if not, they may not want to put the coin into developing it outside of what I've described. IDK...just thinking on keyboard.

They should bring one to the Daytona Turkey Run in a couple weeks... The ultimate backdrop to showcase this car.
