Another reason the new Camaro might be doing poorly is due to its design, the average buyer would assume the Gen6 is just a refreshed Gen5. I don't think its grabbing new interests or exciting in the looks department, only enthusiasts would know its a whole new car with better performance goodies.
Compared to the Gen6 Mustang that departed a lot from 5th Gen Mustang, its turning heads and people are genuinely curious about it. Most people don't even know its a Mustang, I drove mine to the movies the other day and people were asking me what brand it was, a lady thought it was a Maserati and some guy thought it was a German car. The new look is what's really driving Mustang sales, it's grabbing people's attention because the average Joe is curious to know what it is. Until they go to a dealer lot and they are lured into buying one. GM should have went more revolutionary with the new design, it looks too much like the 5th gen. |

Gen 6 SS is overpriced...should have got a power bump for a 2SS and 1SS should have been lower...just sayin

Your right Snarky, I bought a base mustang so I could afford to bring it up to the performance level I wanted and save money doing so. The comment about purist is correct also, most people I've spoken with that own Gen 5 camaro's are unaware of the performance upgrade the Gen6 car's have now. I can't even find the Gen6 cars on the street yet, too few running around due to wheel package snafu!

So interpreting your post...........Design comes first, then performance??
GM Styling probably has your post on every wall in the building. Also keep in mind performance in the car world is much, much more than 0 - 60 and 1/4 or lap times. Not sure you'd ever want GM ride and handling engineers (best in the world IMO) hamstrung by styling.

I think the biggest issue is that even though the performance is outstanding, price wise its hard to justify. |

That's incredibly significant. I don't mean to pick on you, DREWZ, SS...but I think your post illustrates one of the problems the new Camaro faces in sales. Very few people, especially outside of the enthusiast crows, are aware of what has been improved on this car. |

If you are not an enthusiast then the Mustang is just a better proposition. I almost bought a GT because of the price difference. I could of bought a GT Premium for around $35k... that being said to me... someone who is very much in cars... the 2SS was worth the premium.
Plus as others have mentioned the Mustang has a much bigger redesign and honestly... I think it looks really good. I just think the Mustang will appeal to a much larger group than the Camaro. |

I think it is still early to tell, but it won't surprise (or upset) me if the mustang wins the sales battle this generation. I just want strong enough sales to make GM invest in the platform. As long as we get special editions and a great 7th gen I'm good.

Some are saying the 6th gen is too similar to the 5th.
I proffer the opposite. That it's not ENOUGH like a 5th gen (aesthetically). Had the 6th gen looked more like the 5th, I would have gotten a 6th.

It's like my mom. I helped her buy a new car recently and at some point she was checking out some VW and she said she loved it. I told her well don't you want to test drive it first? She like nah as long as it goes forwards and back it's fine.
