Self induced scratch on driver door.....need help

Hi all,

I was cleaning my wheels yesterday using a metallic power hose. Unfortunately due to my clumsiness i scratched the driver side door.
its about 3 inches long and I have no idea how deep it is. Its very evident in direct sunshine but not so much in the garage.

Any tips on getting it fixed? Can I do it at home?
Or will I have to pay for it?

Thanks in advance!

If it is not too deep, trying some good compound and a good orbital buffer, may take a while but you might be able to get out.

Thanks!

Any product suggestions?

Also is this covered in bumper to bumper warranty?

this is owner induced, no, it wont be warranty. Here's the way I think of dings on the car: if it is somewhere when people don't normally look, I will use use touchup paint - watch a you tube video - use a toothpick, the brush with touchup paint is worthless . BUT IF IT'S SOMEWHERE WHERE I ALWAYS SEE IT; door hood, etc, I get it professionally done...google "mobile dent repair [insert your county]", they come to you....

I like Mequiars Ultimate Compound. Their professional series 205 Mirror Compound Glaze is also very good...worth a shot, the worst you will do is lose a couple hours of your time.

Can you feel it easily with your finger nail or is it a shallow scratch in the clear coat? If it is the latter it will be an easy fix. If it is deep enough that your nail catches significantly then take it to a professional.

Liked mentioned if your finger nail doesn't catch in it, it will come out, if it does catch you will be able to lesson it however it won't completely come out.
Do you have a machine polisher? Either way you will need a machine.
Any of our machines and Gen 5 pads with our Paint Correcting Polish will work great.

This is the same response you will get a paint shop. Basically meaning is it through the clear coat or not? If it is through the clear coat better to get it blended or completely repainted. I have seen some paint repair people be able to blend a scratch and you could not tell the difference. In most cases paint repair shops will paint the whole door. When I worked in the car dealerships we had some one that would do mobile paint repair and it was like $150 a car. Almost the same costs as a bumper repainted.

A picture would be helpful. When you run your fingernail over it does your fingernail catch on the edge of the scratch?

I always try ScratchX on light scratches first. I'm sure someone will flame me for suggesting something so simple but it usually works for me. If it don't work you are only out a few dollars.

I read a lot of good reviews of this product. But I want to know if all that pressure rubbing of this product will cause extra criss cross patterns on the paint?

Most of the users said you have to apply real pressure to get it done..
