Thumbs down

Why in the world would GM downgrade the autos like this? What is the possible reason? To save a few bucks?!

One of the first mods I did on my 4th Gen RS, was add a limited slip carrier!

Wow! I didn't know that. I didn't run across that info when I ordered my LT1!Looks like the car will have a short life time after I RECEIVE IT.
Code 4800.

That awesome flat torque curve shouldn't be a surprise to anyone familiar with the LFX and LLT engines....they make great torque across the curve.

But something is up with this test...im going to assume the gear used reduced the numbers by at least 20 on both hp and tq. These are lower numbers than the last gen will put down stock.

Is there any way to enter the ratio of the gear used into the dyno to get an accurate reading? My estimate for an accurate 1:1 reading on a manual would be around 280hp/240tq
I'm thinking the same thing. A 1:1 ratio would have pushed the torque curve further to the right, yielding higher peak HP at the very least. I guess we'll know for sure when someone removes the limiter.

Safety....specifically...tires. Typically, top speed on cars like this are limited to the speed rating of the tire. Going well over that limit can literally make a tire shred apart, which I don't think anyone wants when they are going 150mph down the highway.

There is a thread in the Other Cars Discussion section where this happened to a Mustang on the Dyno. The tire blew and it really messed up his car bad....and that was just on a dyno. Imagine on the road???

That's why I'm a bit surprised we've seen a member push the SS to 170mph. The last gen RS/SS tires were rated at 155, or something like that. Are the 6th gens tires rated much higher?...or did GM really skip the limiter on the SS?

anyways....don't mean to get off topic.

edit #2:
After doing additional research I have found that the stock 20x8.5 wheels for the LT/RS camaro's are a 25mm offset on all 4 corners.

I'll just swap the front/back wheel.

Unhappy

So better tires are an option with a computer change from GM? No, you say?

No. The limiter on the car will be determined by the factory tires it originally came with. (or at least, that's how it was on the 5th gen and other makes/models) To change this will require an aftermarket tune.

FWIW,

I did a few pulls on the dyno years ago to show the difference between gears when dyno'ing.

The car was a H/C/I, 2001 WS.6 Trans Am with a manual trans.

The pulls were in 4th, 3rd, and back to 4th;

HP>455>428>454
TQ>409>382>408

I can't say for sure, but I suspect an open diff is better for MPG.
