It makes no diff.....vette forums in the first year were littered with posts of chevy dealer hijinx just like here. The vette formums have dealers that are just like Becky here

that is what is being referred to above. Tons of guys that bought local got the same runaround.

NO difference at all. Bought trucks, vans and family cars with the same pleasant experience. Again, use all the tools on line to figure exactly what you want in your new vehicle, get an out the door price firm that you are happy with, order it, pick it up. You control the buying experience that way.

I've ordered two Camaros in the last 4 years. The process has been flawless. In one of those cases - surprisingly quick.

But then again, I trust the dealer I work with. Because they know what they're talking about, and they know I'm a straight-shooter who's well-informed. We fill the gaps in for each other, and double-check each other without feeling offended or suspicious.

That's really the key, and the point of this thread: You need to be well-informed if you want things to go your way. This website offers so much expertise to draw from for people ordering a car - I'm really quite proud of it!

Thanks for being helpful, guys!

Does an order workbench get created when a dealer submits your order to GM, or ONCE gm has accepted the order?

As soon as he inputs your order into HIS computer, he gets a workbench and order number. At that point you can check on that report if the options are right. But until this report goes to 2000, Chevrolet doesn't know who you are, and is not building your car.

Constraints don't care about your homework unless some franchise dealership(Becky) posts about them, since GM/Chevy is too much of a garbage company to have a competent social media presence.

Oh, do provide an example of a company that provides active information via social media about dealerships' constraints.....pleeeease.

I could have used this post a few months ago. I've been stuck at 1100 since 12/4. The problem is the first 4-6 weeks can feel acceptable and you think you still might have a shot at the 8-10 week timetable your told when ordering. You throw in a two week holiday shut down and you tell yourself the new acceptable is 10-12. Once you realize that is slipping you start learning more about allocation status with your dealer. Now as of this week the regional GM rep is involved. Allocation has been confirmed but now my order didn't get picked up due to the manual 6 constraint. They asked me if I wanted to switch to a8. Yeah...ok. I'm trying to step back and find a happy place about it...she will be birthed when she's ready I guess.

How do you find a regional GM rep, if my order doesn't get moved by Tuesday (which marks a full week since ordering) I'm going to ask.

Also, my dealer sent me a build sheet, this is NOT a workbench, correct? In the allocation group is says "CAM".. I'm assuming this is the camaro allocation, but not saying if he has allocations.

You were complaining about the dealer/saleman lie, lie , lying to you. that has nothing to do with constraints. Doing your homework before the order gets you a pleasurable ordering experience. continuing to do your homework after the order lets you know exactly where your order is in the que and lets you find out about constraints that be holding your order up during the manufacturing process. Again, has nothing to do with your salesman lying to you just to get your order. Constraints are just a fact of life when there is a supply problem or too many orders come through with the same option and not enough stock was in hand to build them all immediately and nothing to get pissed off about. I keep my cars 2 to 4 years so another 2 to 4 weeks longer to get it doesn't lessen my buying or owning experience. If you think GM/Chevy is such a garbage company, maybe you should be driving a Ford.

The Workbench is two pages and the AutoBook is eight to up to eighteen pages.

Neither says anything about the number of allocations the dealer has, either in that order cycle or for the model year.
