Working On My Credit

I am wanting to purchase the 6th gen Camaro but I would like my credit score a little higher. I was going to start the program offered my Lexington Law and apply for a secure credit card. Does any one have any other suggestions. Thank you.

What is your score now?...cancelling cards and paying off debt is the fastest way to raise score, takes a few months.

You're on the right track. Secured credit card is a place too start. Try and get two.

Im not a credit expert, but I know that I achieved my high score by having a few credit cards that I never used... apparently just having them will raise your score.

Just get a couple cards or account of credit and use them here and there. Pay them off immediately when you can to avoid paying interest. Good way to build credit.

NEVER cancel credit cards... This will reduce your credit as it will increase the percentage of used credit, and reduce the total amount of unused credit...

For example if you have 3 cards with 10K limits, and one of them has 3K on it, you are using 10% (3k / 30k ) of your credit, and have 27K available. If you cancel the 2 cards that are empty, you have 3K debt on a 10K limit, so you are using 30% of your credit and only have 7K available.

This happened to my wife as she had a card with a 20K limit that she did not use for years, so they closed the account on her... we saw her credit score drop and couldn't figure out why until we looked at the total amount of available credit dropped.

The best way to increase credit score is to have a long extensive payment history. Open a credit card account, charge $100 a month, and set it for automatic payments so you never miss one.

If your Score is low and you have had Credit problems, don't burden yourself with a New Car!

Great advice.

Most things on my credit were fraud. My fiancé and u make a combined salary of 160k a year. Would prefer it on our credit instead of paying cash.

Doesn't sound like you're the type that needs a credit repair service. If you have done all you can about the credit fraud in the past, sounds like you just need to shop around for the best rates you can find and build up your score by keeping up with your payments.

How Long Does It Take to Rebuild a Credit Score?

Actually, you don’t rebuild the credit score. You rebuild your credit history, which then is reflected by your credit score. The length of time to rebuild your credit history after a negative change depends on the reasons behind the change. Most negative changes in credit scores are due to the addition of a negative element to your credit report, such as a delinquency or collection account. These new elements will continue to affect your credit scores until they reach a certain age.

Delinquencies remain on your credit report for seven years.

Most public record items remain on your credit report for seven years, although some bankruptcies may remain for 10 years and unpaid tax liens remain for 10 years.

Inquiries remain on your report for two years.
