Is there supposed to be someone there from GM? They were originally going to set up an appointment for me and someone from GM was going to be there. Then they called back and asked me to just send the pictures I had.

Not that this makes anything better, although I guess misery loves company sometimes... but we've got a pretty big bag of dealer horror stories on the Challenger as well. It just seems like dealers are more reluctant to do the right thing these days, as if some bean counters got hired and their primary purpose is to deny warranty work or at least cut corners. Or they've opened a new position with the sole purpose of cutting down on "unnecessary" warranty work. There was one case where the A8 in a Challenger was shifting so bad that it was barely drivable. Dealer wanted to replace the valve body: denied by Chrysler. They demanded that the dealer do a "software relearn" procedure, and the problem was just as bad after that. The customer was told "you have to drive it like that for 5000 miles to see if it gets better". Really?
So yeah, I think GM is probably better than Chrysler but in a case like this, I really think they should replace the car rather than repaint it. I would not be happy getting a brand new car and having to have it repainted. I wouldn't be that confident that the repaint would be undetectable (might affect resale), would hold up as well, etc. Plus it's in the shop for 2 weeks. That's half a car payment while you drive what, a Prius? Not right. Mike |

Sledge,
Are they just going to re-paint the entire car to fix it? Can they tell when it will be ready? Sucks, that you have to wait like this. Should've been done right the first time.

Painting some of the car not all of it. They said 1 week, but my guess is more like 2 weeks based on past dealings.

Curious if dealer is taking care of it? Or they let you take it to a body shop of your choice?

An interesting change of events. So as most of you know my car is in the shop for paint and clear coat issues, most of which are on the hood. The other issues are in the clear coat. The shop manager was and has been very apprehensive on repainting any part of my car citing he hates breaking factory paint, but he will if it is truly needed. He almost seems scared with how picky I have been about painting it regardless of warranty and quality etc.
Today he offered up a hood swap from a brand new 2SS that just arrived at my dealer that is now the GM's wife's demo car. The GM said he is okay to swap the hoods, and the new hood looks flawless. This will mean avoiding repaint. (I am happy about that) The car will, however, get a fresh color sand to address the hazing, etc. in the other spots. If it's still not right, the body shop said he will look at repainting at that point, but they feel they will get the car to showroom quality no problem with this new plan. The detailer who is doing the color sand is a very well known guy in this area, and he charges a pretty penny for his work, he does resto-mods for museums and can make you melt on how glass like he gets the cars he touches. I am overall very happy with how they are approaching this as it keeps the car with factory paint. I was also able to meet the detailer and look forward to having him maintain my car for a long time to come.

Good luck. Sounds like it will all work out and you will have a perfect car. By the way, thanks for all your posts and videos. I have been learning a lot and enjoying them while I wait for my car.
