Get that all the time in my business account.. funny thing is I don't use PayPal regularly (CC merchant) so I know it's BS.. It's kind of obvious usually from the e-mail address.

Pretty regularly, actually, thanks for noticing. Why do you think I pit it in my sig?
![]() Seriously though, these scams aren't seasonal, they're perpetual, are we gonna post about it every time a member gets an email? :dunno:

Never click a link in an email unless someone said they were sending it to you.
In this type of situation (PayPal) always go to the website in question and log into your account directly. There you can find out if they tried to communicate with you.

The scammers are getting pretty good about imitating actual business emails. It used to be that one could spot a fake from a mile away, because there were spelling/ grammar errors, logos looked like crap, and the emails themselves were often too preposterous to not laugh at.
However, last week, I got an email from "CapitalOne." It notified me--- by name--- that my account was overdue. The email LOOKED really legit, with slick logos and none of the red flags that typically give away a fake. I DO, indeed, have a number of accounts with CapitalOne, and if I were just a couple of IQ points shorter, I might have clicked onto one of the many links supplied in the email. There were links to pay it now, to verify my overdue status, to update my info, and so forth. However, I will NOT click onto links sent to me by any doubtful source, and I knew that I was not overdue on any payment. I called CapitalOne, and was able to confirm that my accounts are all up to date, and that this email was indeed a fraud. I could go on all day long about frauds and scams... I make sort of a hobby out of researching and busting them. But one thing is certain: email is something that should never be trusted. If ANY business contacts you by email, do not use the links or contact info contained in the email. Contact them via the established methods that you already know are legit. Always. |

Or look at the sender info. It would always be from @paypal.com and never @pay-pal.com and the likes. But sometimes they can fake that too and you need to get technical and look in the email header.
