Ipod works once in a while, am I doing something wrong?

What's up with the USB/Ipod feature? Sometimes I can play my ipod in the car and sometimes it won't even recognize it or it will recognize it but won't play any music. It never works the same way. I leave the Ipod plugged into the USB all the time. The song will display on my nav screen but nothing plays.

if this is a classic, they have been show to have problems, seems they take a bit too much power from the USB, this reported on the c7 corvette, this might me the same. Some classics work, others don't. I had two classics that would shut off or not power up correctly, switched to a USB stick, fine...

Like Glen mention, pick up a USB flash drive and load you're songs onto that, plug and play straight on you're console

AIF files work too. So you can have much high quality sound with the usb drive.

How new is "newer"? Apple's planned obsolescence is about 18 months. Anything older than that and they intentionally make it not work so you'll have to buy a new one. Example, an iPod or iPhone that is more than about 18 months old is not allowed to get the latest iOS. But you need the latest iOS to perform some features and attach to certain devices. So you have to run out and buy a new one because they won't let your "older" device download the latest iOS.

Only IPhones work with Apple Play. I had the same issue, and found out the iPod touches do not support Apple Play which sucks.

I use one too, but honestly why would you want to use CarPlay just for music? I've seen the Music interface for CarPlay and it is very lacking. I'm betting the myLink is just as much if not more useful. CarPlay's main advantage is text messaging, Siri voice control, and nav.

The IPod touch does everything like an IPhone, you have Imessaging, with the built in Wi-Fi that would work. You have the Maps and Siri too. Just no cellular connection.

Which means you have it connected either to a phone's hotspot or the car's hotspot. Since all of those need an internet connection to work. If connected by phone, why would you use messaging on it. If connected to the car prepare to fork over a lot for the OnStar data plan.

I gotcha. Go take a look at some of the videos showing it off. The interface is stripped down for safety. Even Siri gets chained down into only doing approved commands. Don't think you are going to miss on anything. Will myLink Pandora app even work thru a windows phone? If not, that might be something you are missing out on.

I've got my iPod connected to my S6 hotspot to use the Pandora app in my BMW.
