Headroom w/ and w/o sun roof... Is it different, or the same & my .02 on the 6th gen.
First, a very important question:
After doing some searching on what others had to say, I'm finding mixed answers... Some say you lose head room with the sunroof, just like the 5th gen cars... However, I've come across several people that said head room is the SAME with and without one??? So which is right? I'm REALLY hoping it's not the same w/ or w/o the sunroof... IF you gain head room by not getting the sunroof, any idea how much? 1"? 2" would be ideal for me... As it is, the first two 6th gens finally showed up here, my favorite salesman called me up at 6pm tonight and I went straight down there... Both are 2SS RS cars with the sunroof. I got it one adjusted the seat for length, jacked it all the way down as low as it would go, and leaned it back as far as it would go AND MY HEAD STILL TOUCHED THE ROOF, not just my hair touching, my HEAD... I would hate to drive around like that, and there is NO WAY I could get a helmet on when racing the car (as it is with my 5th gen w/ sunroof, I have to sit with my head cocked to the side with my helmet on when I race it because there's not enough head room for me and the helmet with a sunroof) I feel like the 5th gen seat also reclines farther, which gained me some more of the headroom I was after in my 2010... To be comfortable in a 6th gen and even think about being able to wear a helmet and keep my head straight, I need at least 1.5" minimum MORE head room... I'm hoping that's what could be gained by ditching the sunroof??? Headroom aside, I love to look! The SS sounds great bone stock! The seat was very comfortable, although I wish it could have leaned back a little more. The interior was AMAZING. My biggest complaint about the 5th gen was always the crappy interior. Chevy knocked the interior out of the park on the 6th gen, I was beyond happy with it. Unfortunately it was raining pretty hard so I didn't want to test dive one tonight, but if it clears up one day this week I will go drive one. But I told the salesman, I would not be buying either of the cars on the lot, nor any one with a sunroof. I'll report back with my thoughts after the test drive. Find me some headroom guys! Also for those wondering, I will be working on a new, no drill front license plate bracket for the 6th gen. I did take some measurements tonight, and I have some front end parts on order from the parts department. Assuming my parts show up this week, I should be able to start testing prototypes within the next couple weeks. |

Sorry, no help on the headroom since I'm getting ready to order a convertible, but I am looking forward to the no-drill license plate bracket since I am in Texas.

I am specifically asking about the 6th gen though, as I've read both it's either the same, or do you gain some more head room without... Unfortunately both of these cars at the dealer have the sun roof so I couldn't compare... OH AND BTW... THIS STEALERSHIP IS ASKING 53K for either of these cars LOLOLOL ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like they have a 1LT v6 manual without a sunroof coming it soon, and a 2LT v6 w/ sunroof coming in soon. They're going to want 34.5k for the 1LT, and 47.3k for the 2LT... What a joke. Checking the Chevy website it looks like several of the other dealer ships within about an hour radius of me should be getting Camaros soon... The cheapest 1SS w/o sunroof has a bunch of other BS options I wouldn't want GM price $42k Every single car either here already, or coming in is an auto with the exception of the 1LT v6 on the way... The 1LT has the following options: Installed Options Total $2,765.00 Nightfall Gray Metallic $0.00 Jet Black, Cloth seat trim $0.00 Engine, 3.6L V6, DI, VVT $1,495.00 LPO, Gold illuminated front bowtie emblem $350.00 Technology Package $800.00 LPO, Battery Protection Package $120.00 I just can't see paying 29-35k for a freakin base model. The coupe has the "double bubble" roof. You loose that when you order the sunroof. So headroom should be the same. Or damn close.
I'd say your only option if you are that tall is a vert. |

Looks like $5,000 ADM Based on OP's location and the pictures..looks like it's Airport Chevrolet. The dealers site doesn't list any prices, at all, for anything. They all say "call for appointment" Boy..that doesn't sound sneaky, does it. Last edited by SpeedIsLife; 01-18-2016 at 09:54 AM. |

According to the Order Guide the convert loses 0.1" of headroom when compared to the coupe.

Actually convertibles usually have less headroom due to all the mechanics and such in the roof.

The magazine reviews have suggested if you want headroom to forget the sunroof. I can't recall a sunroof where there wasn't a loss of headroom. The old CTS coupe had a funky tilt only sunroof to protect headroom when the chopped the roof.
Also just went to the Chevrolet website. It appears the RS is only available on the LT????? Looked at both a 1SS and 2SS and it doesn't come up as a package. Is that correct?

My hair touched the roof on the car I sat in with a sunroof. Did not have this problem on the one I sat in without a sunroof. I could be wrong, but it felt like there was at least an inch or two more headroom without the sunroof. The back seat seems significantly worse with the sunroof, than without.
