The 6-piston brakes, as with the higher end 20" wheels, are LPO parts meaning you're basically buying the new ones outright. I had to show my dealer proof from GM that I got to keep my original rims and rotors/calipers. Finally they relented and I got to take them home when I picked up my car yesterday.

In fact, the 6 piston callipers will be sized to have less clamping force with the 14.6" rotor than the 4 piston callipers do with the 13.6" rotor. The overall brake torque will be the same though. The need for the 6 pistons is really dictated by the large rotor diameter.

My point is I wonder if people who are opting for the brake package and spending $3,000+ know what they are getting. All I hear them saying is that this car has 6 piston calipers so I want them too....... That is a lot of money to spend just to say that it has 6 piston calipers up front....

I agree with that.

Really, if the standard 4 piston setup is worth $2000 and the 6 piston setup is worth $3000, and the SS comes with the 4 piston setup, the 6 piston option should only be a $1000 option. Otherwise, you're essentially buying two complete front brake packages if you add the 6 piston option! And I'll bet most people don't even think to ask for the 4 piston setup hardware when they get the 6 piston option. So GM keeps the 4 piston setup, sells it again and gets paid twice for the same parts?

Hmmm...

How exactly are you supposed to get it back? My salesman is a very good friend of mine so I'll know if the car arrives with the stock brakes. When we placed my order, we didn't see anyway to request the stock brakes (or wheels as i was originally looking at the red outlined black gloss option).

Given the stagnant wages of the masses I'd say the OEM's are gouging the heck out of the buying public. $8,000+ in options? Seriously? 3k for factory wheels? $140 for black bowtie emblems when the car is getting an emblem either way? $140 for rubber floor mats? The list goes on.....

It probably isn't GM that keeps the part, but the dealer......

If it is a dealer installed option that means the dealer service department is actually the one who installs the part (at least that is how I have always understood it). So they will have the stock wheels and brakes after they change the part out....

Brakes will ship into the parts department and the dealer will install them. Make sure you get your original rotors and calipers - they belong do you. Do with them as you please. eBay, sell them on the forums, use them as bookends.

On LPO parts, the dealer doesn't get to keep the part. If they try using the "core deposit" excuse, do the math. For the 5-split spoke low-gloss black wheels (56F), they're between $350 and $500 at the parts counter, depending on where you get them. The option is $1995. So the car will ship on the standard 20" wheels. You didn't put down a $1000 core deposit (your original wheels) and then pay another $2000 for 56F. Also, your window sticker will display 2 sets of wheels.

I have a chat between myself and GM customer service saved, along with messages between myself and BeckyD that confirm my suspicions about the originals going back to the buyer. I've got a set of rims, 2 rotors, 2 calipers and the original kneepads sitting in my garage as proof.

Fully Loaded 2SS

I hit almost 47k. The 6 piston Brembos would have put me over the 50k mark before GM Supplier discount.

So what is the most a 2SS could cost assuming you don't haggle? Checking yes to every add-on and feature offered....
