NPP Exhaust and Looking for a Deeper Rumble....

So I have heard and driven a stock Gen6 SS, a SS with NPP and multiple 5th gen SS, ZL1, 1LE, and Z/28 cars. With that said, I had a 69' Z/28 with the 4.9L V8. The one thing I loved was it's deep grumble.

Fast forward back to today and I feel the NPP exhaust and just about all the Gen5 aftermarket offerings sounded very baritone in nature, or lacked the deep grumble I seem to be seeking.

Now, how can one try to obtain a deep note?

Is it headers and less Cats?

How about headers with an H-Pipe?

Is it LT headers vs. shorties?

From all the car knowledge within these forums, what has been the best combo to get a nice deep bass grumble out of these V8's?

I should note, I am well aware its impossible to get my new car to sound like a late 60's hotrod due to engine block material and how today's engines fire. I just want to see how close I can actually get without dropping in a new Cam.

I have a 2013 and the long tubes made the greatest impact for me. Also have the borla s-type with high flow cats

Long tubes and no cats will get you started. Thats going to be difficult out in commiefornia I know. I'd put an H pipe on it if you are looking for deep rumble. Then pick your poison of aftermarket mufflers, you will be on the right track with about any of the more well known brands. I have 1 7/8 KooKs catless mids and a 3" all the way back with x pipe and spintech mufflers on this goat. My previous goat had 1 3/4 inch long tubes, same exhaust system but 2.5" The pipe diameter did add a lot of depth. I've always preferred spintech on the LS series, they rumble down low and absolutely scream when you mash the go pedal. Borla is deep, but runs on the quiet side... kinda... long tubes with catless mids brings out the beast in nearly anything. I suppose my point is, as long as you got long tubes and catless mids you will be somewhere in the neighborhood you are looking for.

All the cars that I've owned and driven with NPP have that baritone or raspy sound. To get that sound your looking for you may have to go with an aftermarket system to get it. I have B&B PRT's on my C5 Vette and I absolutely love them. Deep rumble at start up and idle but really open up at full throttle. That's without headers or an H pipe. I'll be adding those in the spring. I'll see if I can get a sound clip in the next day or two to post up.

Long tubes. x-pipe. No cats. Flowmaster. Cam.

My old car

Not typically a fan of flowmaster...but it depends on the set up.

btw...I have seen certain tuners that can make a car idle like it is camming.

Get an xpipe first (no cats). Still not enough?

Longtubes WITH cats, not enough?
Longtubes WITHOUT cats.

That would be your safest and more expensive way of doing it lol. I just want an xpipe...

Sound tube into cock pit aside , the difference I hear /feel from their C7 vs. G6-SS setup is a higher pitch and more "raspy" on load, man I always want more but have seen guys dump 2-3k into pipes only to be very disappointed ...catch 22 IMO

H-Pipe will help, and than headers.... I'll stop at that point.

Since you have the NPP, they will have to do some chopping and welding for the x/h pipe. Chevy decided to make the xpipe and the npp all 1 pipe which is just weird...

OR just grab the kooks headers which does come with the xpipe. Just do not know if it will fit with the NPP or not. Kooks usually makes stuff for their own products lol.

Actually going to have it custom made.

The kooks headers do not come with an x-pipe. I contacted jdm since I was interested and they said no x-pipe with any of the kooks headers, just some short connection pieces off the headers.

On my 5th Gen, I have IMHO the PERFECT deep Muscle car sound!
Flowmaster OUTLAW Catback, X-Pipe, and a Jannetty tune. Ohhhh...that DEEP BASS!

Hopefully by the time I get my Zxx 6th Gen, they will have a Muscle car (Sound) set-up for the NPP....I like the tuning aspect of it!

That would DEFINITELY work! lol. Wait to see what LG will bring to the table as well. Their c7 full exhaust system are top notch, a little pricey but legit. I am just sad that the npp and xpipe are just 1 freaking pipe...

If you order a full on headers + catback from them, they do have a connector. Perhaps it isn't an xpipe, which still doesn't play well with the NPP and have to chop stuff up :/
