Seriously considering "downgrading" to V6

I have had my 13 ss for 3 years now, and getting ready for a 16. I am starting to seriously think about getting the v6 and saving myself $8k. Based on what i have seen the new v6's are quite fast. My only concern is missing that low end torque. I actually prefer the cleaner front end on the LT, so thats a plus. Call me crazy, but there is just something not right not buying a v8 camaro Just dont want to regret this decision for the next 3 years(lease)

I don't think its crazy. I went from a 13ss to a new C7 Vette and now the v6. I came to the same conclusions as I just don't need a v8 around town.

I find the v6 quite fast, I can compare it to a 335 BMW, this is just as fast. The 8 speed trans mates well to give you good acceleration.

you can certainly tell it's not the v8, but it's fine with me.

I love my RS, can not really compare it to the power of a 16 SS as I'v not driven one but I can tell you the V6 is a great engine. You will be able to get around most anything else on the road and it will throw you back in you'er seat no problem at any speed when you drop it down one and nail it. I'v always been a fan of the RSs myself, IMO unless you want to use it for track or drag on the weekends there is really no use for the extra 2 cylinders, as a Daily Driver the V6 has everything you will ever need. Another plus is no skip shift

Or just get the base 1ss with NPP for the same price as the 2Lt loaded.

I enjoyed my 2010 RS for 6+ years. It was plenty quick, got great fuel economy and I could use regular 87 gas. I decided to go SS this go around and its alot of fun too! I never drove a 5th gen SS on purpose so I wouldn't lust for one and I am glad I didn't. You might miss the low end torque, but might enjoy the fuel efficiency of the V6. Either way, they are both great cars and you will enjoy it. I am enjoying the cheap gas right now though, I am sure it will eventually get back into the $3 range at some point and then you'll be happy you have an RS!

I think i'm willing to give up the v8, before all the goodies. Im gonna see what the price difference is per month between the 2lt, and 2ss on a lease is in a few months. If its less than $100 a month, i will probably go for the 2ss.

OMG people, RS is not a model, it's an appearance package available on all models (z28 excluded). You either have a SS, ZL1, or some type of V6 (LS, LT, etc.). However I'm glad you're all happy with your RS appearance package.

You can rationalize it all you want, but driving a Camaro is more about emotion than logic. I think you will never make up in price what you lose in driving experience, and you'll regret it every time you get into the car. You'll have that voice in the back of your head saying, "I should've gotten the V8."

I'm not knocking the V6. It's just hard to "go back" once you've gotten used to the V8. The V6 is a fantastic car, but it just isn't an SS.

If saving money is the end goal, I strongly recommend you simply wait til the 2017's are out and then pick up a barely used 2016 car at a steep discount. I saved literally $11,000 off sticker by buying a slightly used 2013. The guy drove it for 6 months, had 5,340 miles on the OD and traded it in - sticker $42,000, I paid $31,000 - for a 2013 in December 2013. It wasn't even a full year old yet.

Just be patient and you'll get a slamming deal on a used 2016 next winter! You'll save the money you want and get the car you want. Patience. Patience.

FWIW all of the car mags that have reviewed this car with the 3.6 all say the same thing at the end of the article how impressive that engine is and how well it "Pairs" with the suspension. I would say drive it with an open mind and make the call. The LT-1 is a beast ..plain and simple ...was in my C7 ....more so in this car so happy I got the MRC...worth the money but an obvious omission of $$ is the object.

OK. In that case, I will spare you the "depreciation speech" and ask you to be patient anyway so you don't pay the "early adopter's tax."

In a year, you will be able to get a leftover 2016 under MSRP instead of paying sticker price now. Perhaps GM will run another Black Friday 20% off special like they have the past two years in a row. You'll get your 2016 for 20% off, which is about the $8,000 you're looking for.

Either way, it pays to be patient and get the car you really want for the price you desire. In the meantime, you get to drive a badass 5th Gen.
