I know it's faster than that car was but the 4th gen was just so raw and squirrely that I got such a different perception of speed.

The 6th gen is light years ahead of the 4th gen and I'm 100% fine with the perception not being there if it means not being in a rattle trap with broken plastic bits everywhere I'm just curious if anyone else drove one and thought "Hmm...I was expecting it to be faster" the first time they got on it.

This is in no way a knock on the new car. I actually prefer the way this one feels now that I'm a little older. I'm just curious if anyone else felt the same way.
Yep same feeling nothing new.

I haven't driven a 6th gen yet...but the sense of speed was much less in my 5th gen compared to my 4th. Like you said the 4th gen is squirrely and raw feels a lot faster etc.

My buddy had a mild heads/cam build in a full option 2000 SS 6 speed and when my 5th gen was full bolt on the cars were neck and neck. I was actually a bit faster we ran a few times. After about 80 I would creep away.
I would have bet my life on it that he would have smoked me. After I did heads/cam on my 5th it felt about as fast as his but I would leave him in the dust.

I am hoping the sense of speed is a bit better than the 5th gen but its not going to compare to a 4th gen I wouldn't think.

The fox body mustang the same friend used to have really felt quick...even more so than a 4th gen. Felt quicker than my 98 at the time with the mods he had...but when we raced...I won.

SOTP dyno is really inaccurate...and I wouldn't have thought so until I had first hand experience...

It's all in the power delivery. I had a Honda V65 Sabre that accelerated like you were shot out of a 17th century cannon. The acceleration was brutal. My ZX14 which put 170HP to the ground was just smooth... It would leave the V65 standing still, but it never felt like it.
I have heard in comparisons that the Camaro is a smoother power delivery than many other vehicles...A lot of that has always had to do with its weight, but that's slowly becoming less of an issue as they shave pounds off.
When you're dropping the hammer, milliseconds make all the difference in what you perceive.
Be careful. That smoothness can result in a buttload of excess speed before you realize what you just did...

Many new cars are too refined for my tastes. A friend let me driver her E92 M3 and the experience was anticlimactic, despite it being the most powerful car I'd ever driven, with 414 HP. The acceleration felt muted and detached. By comparison, driving my turbocharged '73 Datsun 240Z feels like being chained to a grizzly bear.

Reading this article on the gen 5 1LE really got me hopeful that I could find a modern car that still had that raw energy:

Fingers crossed that the gen 6 hasn't become too refined...

Whats the best rpm to have the lt1 with an a8 at for a roll? And should it be put in manual mode and downshift then hit the throttle and switch back to auto mode?

This was something I've been wondering about too bc just punching it in drive will have a delay while it downshifts, and in manual mode trying to manually shift upshift will probably have you hitting red line bc of the upshift delay. going to manual mode to get in the right gear and then shifting to drive might work well

I heard you can you can put it in manual mode and hold the downshift paddle and it will automatically put it in a good gear for the speed. I'll have to try it out. I need to see what the peak rpm is for the lt1 to pull at.

Where you doing a roll race? Not many tracks have that and if you were involved you would already know the best way to drive such a car. Street racing topics I thought were not allowed. And if you are racing on public streets in traffic, well, it is incredibly reckless and stupid. And I have watched young folks go to prison for a long time due to incidents caused by racing on the street. Remember, "Street Outlaws" is not real. It is a shut down area surrounded by cops.

No. Just wondering what the best rpm is to hit the throttle while rolling for the best pull possible. Im not experienced with the LT1 I'm used to the LS1. There is a slight delay if you mash it in drive. Don't act like you never go full throttle ever on a public road.

It was said ROLL RACE. No confusion there. And no I don't race on the street. But I make sure they are comfy in their jail cell when others do.

I put the word race in there as an example I shouldnt have put it in there but I did oh well. Im referring to the pull at a roll and what the best rpm is to go hit the throttle. And people are going to go WOT in their performance cars. It's not a Malibu.and you said you don't race on public roads. Me neither but like you and most everyone on this forum, you go WOT on public roads.

Seems to me, most your power at low end, this car has lots of torque. So if you want more, I suggest a Procharger, to make it the power curve constant.

This ^ Its because they are much more refined than previous ones.

My 04 Mustang GT felt much faster than my 07, but 07 would have put a bus length on my 04.

I wonder if these new 6th gen Camaros have the same issue with the throttle control pedal delay that the 5th gen Camaros have? It would be great if my current 5th gen Vitesse harness fits directly into the 6th gen! Maybe that would make it feel faster?
