Butt Dyno is one thing. Infatuation is always the strongest when you first bring it home.
Get the car through the break in period. Give them time to see how they like the heating. cooling, mirrors, windows, too many variables to say, Whoa, my 5th gen is such a pile of shit...

I only have 800 miles on my 1LE. It's going to be mid spring before I can really give a solid evaluation of the car.

I was really thinking of getting a '16 2SS convertible.

After seeing the under hood build quality (of a 2LT), I'm thinking I'll get a Corvette instead.

I'm not saying it isn't a great car for the $$$. I'm just saying I like to under hood build of the 5th gen and C7 Corvettes better.

Is this a joke? I spent the majority of this past Sunday looking at my buddies SS, and there is absolutely no issue with the "under hood build quality". If anything, the paint in the engine compartment is better than the 5th gen, and some of the plastics looked upgraded from the 5th gen too. Even had a nice GM Performance plaque.

We're fighting over "upgraded plastics" in the engine bay......lol

I have a 2012 45th anniversary 2SS that I bought new and have been driving as a fun car for the last three years to the tune of about 32K miles.

As soon as I saw the first pics of the 2016 I knew I was hooked. I’ve been searching dealers around me for a couple of weeks now and finally found one locally that had a loaded 2SS Auto with MRC and the NPP.

Car was White with Jet black interior and silver wheels and looked killer but at almost $49K I had about $4K of options I don’t want or need.

We took the car out and the sales person let me drive it for as long as I wanted and encouraged me to “get on it” so I did more than a couple of times. Over all I put about 10 mile on it.

As for a comparison to my loaded 2012.

The size of the car is immediately apparent. The large cowl of the 5th gen has been lowered. It’s still there but it’s easier to see over. The side windows actually feel smaller but somehow the visibility seems slightly better.

The 2016 is smaller inside. A lot smaller but all of the hard plastic is gone and in its place is nicely padded cushions for your arms on the doors, arm rest and knees so it’s not as bad resting on them. The new interior is lite years ahead of the 5th gen cars. I love my 2012 but it feels like it was built in 1980 compared to the new car.

Power and weight wise. The car is much more nimble. It feels like it’s lost a lot more than 200lbs. The steering is much more direct and nicely weighted unlike the overly heavy feel of the 5th gen. Obviously I didn’t do any timed runs but it feels like the 16 got to 60 about a second faster than my 2012 and seemed a lot less labored is doing so.

I’m glad I got to drive a car with MRC as I’m now absolutely sure it’s unnecessary for me. We played with the different setting and I just didn’t feel that the difference in setting was worth the cost of entry. Add in the fact that I will most likely never track the car other than in a straight line and it’s a waste of money for me.

The NPP sounded good closed and absolutely awesome once opened up so this options will be a must have for me.

That's about it. I'm going to be buying sometime in 2016. Maybe toward the end of the year to take advantage of the year end deals. That will give me time to sell my 2012 as well.
Very objective review. I agree with the MRC statement. I have a ZL1 and tried with several people to see if they knew the difference an no one did. Its one of those options you use the first couple of months then forget about it. Also after warranty is finished most people do not realize its several thousand dollar to replace the shocks. and they do wear out.

There is nothing that plastidip can't fix.

Plastics are never upgraded. The plastic materials are constantly made thinner and cheaper to keep manufacturing costs lower. So, I don't know how anyone can say the plastic is better. Well, if you mean more flexible and easier to make, then you may have a point.

However, a lot of these parts are a single time use product unlike the old days. Have you ever tried taking something apart only to realize that the mounting tabs broke off or the clips snapped off? That doesn't seem like better plastics to me. Or, what about the recycled plastics they're putting in vehicles nowadays?

Thin cheap plastic with styrofoam, yes styrofoam, glued to the backside to give it the illusion that's it's a high quality material. Go visit a late model junkyard and you may be surprised on what you see.

I was taken back by his post. I mean who really cares about the fit and finish of the engine bay...But, I was just stating, since I have actually seen and driven a production car, unlike most in here, that is's fine...I saw no issues with fit and finish.

But, after seeing his "mod list" in his signature, I should have known better. I don't consider a license plate frame and a gas cap a "mod".
