It's were 20 pounds of the weight reduction came from. Surprised everyone is giving GM a pass on that.

19 to 16 gals is just another straw for those unhappy with the over-all design to grab at....A tid-bit to go with their sour-grapes that their delicate genius was not recognized and incorporated into the design again for the last six years or so... ...Maybe they'll get all their wishes in the 7thGen....until then, we'll have to listen to them pound their hi-chair about what they didn't get to suit their tastes... |

Then you are missing the points I've been making for the past 2 years.
GM didn't get weight out of the Camaro. They just made the Camaro smaller in many areas including fuel capacity. No one seems to be recognizing that. They just are happy for the number. Smaller rear seat Smaller trunk Smaller fuel tank All "trade offs" made to have a smaller car that, ta dahhhhh, weighs less. But be verrrry clear. I'm not anti-GM and never have been. But I do have very high bar for their products. Here is why...... Their f&%cking market share continues to drop. It has only gone up once in the last 10 years and that was when Japan had a reactor melt down that shut down a huge chunk of their automobile production. GM needs GREAT cars that challenge the entire market, not just really good cars that are simply loved by the people that have always bought them. GM is making huge amounts of money right now. But fewer and fewer people are buying their cars. Trucks continue to save the day. I worked there for 26 years and market share went up 3 times. I still have my pin with "29" on it. That was the line in the sand GM claimed they would not fall below. Today they are just a bit more than half that. I want them to succeed. I have a pension that depends on it!!!!!! And that doesn't happen with cars that aren't great. Too many awesome competitors out there now.

Sure the Challenger has a bigger back seat, but it also weighs 600 lbs more. shoot, you have one of them...the SS BTW, in 2 or three years if the sales numbers are good for the Camaro vs. Mustang vs Challenger - will that relieve your anxiety?

The 5th gen and the zeta platform was big, bulky, overweight, so now GM uses the lighter, smallerm more nimble Alpha platform that is highly regarded by just about everone that knows anything about cars...of course there are going to tradeoffs, but a smaller backseat, smaller fuel tank, etc. are really not negatives at all, if we were talking about a sedan like the Malibu, or Impala, then yes that would matter because those are selling points for cars like that, but they are not for a Camaro. I for one am not buying the Camaro for a huge backseat, big long range fuel tank, huge trunk that I can fit 10 pieces of luggage in! GM hit a home run with the 6th gen, this is what the majority of people wanted and what should be for this car!

Sorry GM couldn't magically come up with a brand new chassis for the Camaro, and take 500 pounds out of the car all while keeping it the same size. They took Alpha (fantatic place to start) and did what they could with it. Don't forget, many of us ASKED FOR A SLIGHTLY SMALLER CAR!!!!! I know I did. The weight taken out is a nice bonus. I respect you, and I know you have a background in the industry, and more knowledge than I, but I think maybe you put your hopes and dreams for the next Camaro way to sky high. I mean, honestly...visibility is the only valid complaint about this car. The rest (small trunk, small rear seat room) are very small potatoes. The car is fantastic...hell even Top Gear said it might be "too refined" now.....what????? Do we want an even lighter, or just as light but maybe roomier, larger Camaro next time around. Well I have one word for you an everyone else: OMEGA.

I've watched GM's sales get ever smaller and I think in this case they made a great Camaro SS that clearly is satisfying many enthusiasts on this website. So much so that they are getting defensive. But is it a Camaro that does more than satisfy those that are enthusiastic enough to come on Camaro 5/6? It's hard to do, and I can do it because of the jobs I've held evaluating competitive products, but ask yourself if you are looking for a new car out in California or out in NY where GM's car market share has been BELOW 10% for years and assume you aren't about 'Mercan Muscle and you just want a fun to drive, economical car that looks really nice....................will this car win your money with a poor visibility, a small trunk, no rear seat now to speak of????? That is my worry. GM satisfied US (and yes, I count myself satisfied, I just wanted more) but did they do enough to grow Camaro sales? Look at the Mustang. Latest number showed them at 150,000 units. way beyond anything the Gen 5 ever did. And I'd like to see the volume penetration of V8's in those numbers. So yes, sales numbers will help me feel better, but the Mustang has set the new bar for what that number is and isn't 100,000.
