The chevy SS had(has) the same powertrain as the gen 5 Camaro; so no. Fiat isn't the only one with competition within. The Camaro has the SS on the proper muscle car side, and the Corvette on the sports car side, and still spanks the Fiat and the Donkey.

Lol...

The SS wasn't competitive with anything in GM. It was an aberration in the lineup.

I'd say it's pretty competitive against a 2SS non 1LE Camaro.

To be fair, isnt that the case with every line that carries a V6 and V8 version? (Challenger, Mustang Camaro) The sales of the 6's are usually what keep the lines alive overall.

Not even a year after launch and it looks like the honeymoon's already over.

I thought from the beginning that the stock performance and styling was an insult to this segment...then again I'm biased.

Spank somebody's ass is irrelevant the Challenger is not looking to spank Camaro or Mustang asses they're just doing their own thing. spanking charger or challenger ass is a Camaro or Mustang thing thing oh yeah and a media thing but again not a Mopar thing

Bro if you honestly believe Fiat doesn't wish they had GM or Ford level sales volume, you're delusional.

Then again they should probably work on their ridiculous quality issues before chasing volume.

You bet your ass they want to outsell Camaro and Mustang. They're in the business of selling cars and currently have one of the smallest profit margins in the biz. The big picture for FCA is not very rosey right now and they need as many sales as possible.

I'm telling you that is not what the Challenger and the charger is meant for to spank Camaro and Mustang asses sure they will take a bite off the sales if they can but that's not the main goal. I think they just want to sell cars. I belong to a number of Mopar forums and the main theme has never been to spank Camaro and Mustang asses those guys seem more intent on spanking the tracks ass more so than anything else yeah there are a few guys who say they pulled up next to a Mustang and raced them or they pulled up next to some rice and raced them but they seem to be into making their cars faster at the track and getting better track numbers.

Personally myself in my charger with my heavy ass wheels regardless of the fact that I have put tons of money into making my mopar car run faster but I never mess with Camaros are Mustangs on the road. Now I will race an a****** in a Euro Car if he's acting up same thing with a Pontiac if the driver is acting up but again I don't do Camaros and Mustangs I know the story there

They may wish and wish and wish but brother that is not their goal and objective with these cars to answer the Camaro and Mustang

Agreed but I think just looking at charger vs challenger you would see the v6 ratio much higher for the charger.

And let's not forget the Challenger came back before the Camaro. Dodge clearly wanted a piece of the pie. But with all the instability of the company, I don't believe they ever had the ability to beat the mustang or camaro in sales. Lack or commitment from the higher ups, too big, mopar reliability, lack luster v6...pick an excuse. Maybe they have gave up on trying. If so it goes to show you why FCA is in the position it is.

Rumors of a new smaller chassis and a barracuda would suggest otherwise.

On the current platform it would be really tough. They are doing a good job with what they have. But I agree at the moment it's not the focus for the most part.

Yeah that's just a rumor because its not in there five year plan but there are a lot of people out on the Internet who want it to happen and they put renderings up but it ain't going to happen

In terms of sales and segment, not raw performance.

GM was never seriously devoted to it.

Have you seen the performance #s on the '2015 SS (Sedan)? Same acceleration and braking as a non-1le camaro with better handling! See links below.
