Good point that the new car is supposed to be near the current 1LE for handling.

For a Gen6 1LE:

- More aggressive suspension tuning (buyers will be more inclined to a stiffer ride); mag ride not needed as custom tuning will be desired; lower the car about 1".
- Forged 19X10 wheels
- Rear diff with carbon fiber clutch pack or Torsen option
- Gearing updated for acceleration/track use
- Some aero/styling changes to support the wider wheels
- Enhanced reliability mods: real oil to air cooler. Whatever is needed for temp control.
- A CAI would be a nice way to get 10 hp and the added noise again not a problem
- Track tuned equipment levels: basically a 1SS with Recaros; otherwise weight reduction stuff similar to the Boss 302
- Track harness option for 5 point and HANS.

Personally I would love to have a limited run with the LS3 and dry sump, same headers as LTI, CAI, and performance exhaust. The simplified hop up of that motor is great for track heads. Won't happen I know.

Sounds like fun, but I don't think Chevy will offer two extra-performance cars with stripped interiors (if they offer a 6th Gen Z/28). It really limits the number of buyers as we are, after all, creatures of comfort. We like bells and whistles. I predict if there is a 6th Gen Z/28, there will not be a 1LE.

Fair enough. The 1LE was limited anyways. I have a 2SS because they gave me a deal I couldn't walk away from but I didn't initially want one.

The 1LE came after the ZL1, maybe it will happen again. Wider tires, lower gearing and larger brakes would improve an already track capable 6 Gen SS.

I believe 2-3 yrs before it shows, with the required track performance upgrades..I believe all the 5th gen models will show in the 6th gen. Evolutionary was the word..

Current 2015 1LE Vs 2016 6gen 2SS:
- 2015 1LE: 20×10 front, 20x11 rear 10 spoke rims fromZL1, with low gloss Black finish. 6gen 2SS: 20x8.5 front 20x9.5 rear 5 spoke silver (standard with black available ).
- 2015 1LE: 285/35zr20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar Gen 2 performance summer tires. 6gen 2SS: 245/40zr20 front, 275/35zr20 rear blackwall summer runflats.. similar rating but different leagues as runflats usually suffer in performance. <- actually I'm not sure about that last statement.
- FE6 Performance Rise n Handling, with specially tuned front/rear stabilizer bars. 6gen 2SS: Magnetic rise control..not sure if this improves performance or just adds comfort..
- 2015 1LE: TREMEC 6-speed manual with 3.91final drive ratio. 6gen SS: 3.73 fgr with 6speed manual.

In my opinion, there's room, interest, and precedence for a 6gen 1LE performance package. Better tires, tuned higher perf suspension, and higher final gear ratio. One last point is, the 2015 1LE had GM's velcro covered steering wheel and shifter which I thought was a cool touch although the 6gen steering wheel and shifter material do look plenty nice.

I think as long as the Mustang has a track pack/performance pack there will be some form of 1LE package to compete against it at a similar price point. Will it be as good a value as the one on the 5th Gen, I have no idea. I personally would rather wait a year or more and have it be totally awesome instead of rushing something out the door that is underwhelming. I think the shared development cost of the ZL1 was a big factor in making the 1LE such a great value. If Ford had followed that same model the Mustang Performance Pack would likely be sporting some GT350/GT500 parts but the Performance Pack was released at the start of MY 2015 when the 6th Gen Mustang was released and did not allow them to use any parts from either of those two cars which are/were still in development.

I think the fact that the new SS is already beating the old 1LE on the test track is quite telling. The SS is a street car; period. They've really upped the ante on performance if the new regular street car is beating the previous gen track pack car on the track.

At this point a new 1LE package would most likely be fine tuning items. Some aero pieces, gearing changes for trans and diff, better seating and belts, modified performance programs for the computer, 6 piston front brakes, 19x10 wheels all the way around, etc. I would like to see even 19x11 with wheel well extensions ala Z/28. Instead of using heavy expensive Recaros, I think they should design their own light-weight high performance seat which can be shared between the 1LE package and the Z/28.

I don't know if they'd go with MR shocks or a less expensive version of the DSSV shocks the Z has. They could basically make the new 1LE be the gap car between the SS and the Z/28 for those who want to do road course; sharing some of the features but not hardcore; slightly more expensive than the SS but significantly less expensive than the Z/28. The new hardcore Z/28 is going to be ferocious.

When I see a ZL1, I think to myself,'THANK YOU' for your: front wheel bearings, rear shock mounts, rear sway bar, rear toe links, fuel pump with additional fuel pickups, shifter, steering wheel, rims, and front tires.

At first I was bummed that gen6 didn't have a 1LE at launch as the gen5 i was " that close on pulling the trigger to buy one. but the more I heard and wanted to see what gen6 had to offer, and looking at the build sheet, it appears that the gen6 with MR suspention, 6piston brakes and cooled G80 diff (amung other things) would put the gen6 right at or above the gen5 1LE?
At least this is what I take it to be.

5th gen 1LE and 6th gen SS with the manual have the same transmission gear ratios. The SS has 3.73 gears, and I'm pretty sure the 1LE has 3.91 gears though.

We had to wait two years to get Recaros on the ZL1 and a year to get them on the SS/1LE. I am going to wait this time. It is too hard and too expensive to buy them after the fact.

What I think a 1LE will look like:

-Wider wheels. I doubt we'll see much of a diameter change, maybe 19s like the Z28, but if they go parts-bin like before they'll be 20s. As long as they are 10-11" wide I'm good

-Better seats. I have no idea what they stock seats are like, but I'll take something like the upgraded C7 seats. Would love something in addition to black be available color-wise (central TX gets hot!). Light, supportive, etc.

-Gearing. Again, not sure about the stock car yet, but something along the lines of the 5th gen 1LE would be great.

-Aero. This makes a lot of sense since they can actually compromise some of the wind tunnel gains they made with this car in the name of lift elimination or downforce.

-Brakes. Not a requirement for me, but I would imagine they'll throw some upgrades in this arena.

-Springs, bushings, sways, and ride height. Self explanatory. Make it stop, go, and turn.

If it has the wheels, gearing, suspension, and seats I'm 100% in. I will buy one. If it has some subset of these I may also buy one, but the wheels in particular are a requirement. 8.5" fronts just won't cut it for me.
