Question Flat-bottom steering wheel... Is it optional?

Is there an option for a full standard steering wheel? For some reason I just don't see this being comfortable for regular driving/turns/turnarounds, etc. It seems like it'd be more geared for racing.

I doubt it. Test drive one...I bet you will like it better than the normal wheel after a few minutes, unless you cruise with your hand at the bottom of the wheel. In that case I guess it would take some getting used to.

Takes minus one second to get used to and there is no adjusting to turn etc.

On another topic i am extremely excite for the padding on the window sill and center console. My elbow and knee thanks gm. The driving experience in the new cockpit is going to be nice.

I'm looking forward to having this type of steering wheel as well. Something new to experience.

It is in fact much easier to turn using the flat bottom wheel.

It is less motion to turn the wheel and a shorter distance for your hand to travel.

We have them in all of our cars and would never have a car without one now. I just put this in my C7:

I'm not understanding this. Any of that would be a byproduct of the progressiveness of the steering system, not the shape of the steering wheel.

The only way a flat bottom on the steering wheel could result in "a shorter distance for your hand to travel" would be if you're holding the wheel by the flat part, thereby making your hand turn on a slightly small arc radius. This would be negligible at best.

Am I missing something?

Regardless, I'd love to have a flat bottom wheel!

No that is exactly the reason why, and it is a huge difference.

And most of my turns where the wheel need to rotate I do from the bottom of the wheel.

So think of it as holding the rim of the wheel is longer travel and a bit slower steering feel, grabbing the flat is less travel and faster turn in.

Once you drive you its easy to understand.

The point of a flat bottom wheel is for clearance above your legs/knees. Much more useful in a cramped racecar. Sports cars have them nowadays, well, because racecar.
