Good catch, the Corvette already has it. I noticed that both the Corvette and the Cadillac XTS have a notch in the arm, but this is absent on the Camaro. Do you have any idea if this plays a role in the locking mechanism? I also boosted the contrast of the below picture, and although it's a bit dark in the original picture, there seems to be a sort of deadbolt that mates with this.

Love everything but the spoiler on the SS. I actually prefer the spoiler on the V6 over the V8.

This tech was created in 2009 by ford... Has been used in a lot of cars... Cadillac has the same tech and is currently using it. It was designed to where you can't stick a hose in it and get gas out. You don't need to lock the gas filler that you can't get gas out of...

I'm sure some of this tech, if not all, will be used...

The throwing your arms up in disgust over a car not having a built in (or possibly not having) a locking gas cap is the "first world problem" - as in being overly upset about a such a small thing. As said, the system is designed so you can't siphon gas out.

As I said, locks only keep your friends out anyways. My G8 has a locking gas door, but if someone wanted it open its a small screwdriver pop away from accessing. If someone wants access to your fuel filler to put crap in or pull gas out, scratching your paint won't slow them down.

By that reasoning why have locks on anything. Deterrence has its value. Don't think anyone is saying they won't buy the car over no locking gas cap, but it will increase the amount of time to break in and make visible evidence of tampering.

Question

Exactly my thoughts as well -- PLEASE tell me there is a way to LOCK the gas door access?!?!

Also, I'm kind of disappointed that the gas door is not a locking style. I prefer having a cable actuated opening mechanism so anyone can't just open it.

Why bother having door locks? Why bother having a coded ignition? Why bother locking the doors and windows to your house when you leave for vacation? Hell just leave all your doors open by your logic. If someone really wanted to break in to your house they will do so no matter what. Why bother putting a lock on your door then?

Yes you do need a lock, to prevent tampering, which comes in many forms. i.e. you do not want a foreign substance added, unless you are the one adding it like a fuel system cleaner, etc.

Look at the picture I annotated showing what appears to be the hole where the locking mechanism secures. How the heck would you ever force that open with a screw driver? It's totally hidden in the arm itself, preventing prying from any angle.

There's no reason not to have it, only some weak reasons why it won't keep out everybody. You can honestly bypass the gas cap entirely if you were that determined and just puncture a hole directly in the fuel tank.

Maybe you're one of the few people who doesn't lock their door at night because this is a first world country?
