When you shift the A8 manually, it will send you running to buy the manual instead. Take Tadge's advice and buy the manual transmission. You will regret the A8.

Unless you have a different source than the one provided, that isn't what he recommended at all.

The problem with the A8 being discussed is overheating when used on the track. The suggestion was to use the paddles to short shift, reducing the heat problems. Or go with a manual. As good as the automatic may be at accelerating in a straight line, it's not the ideal thing to have on the track. A good manual or a true automated manual like a dual clutch will be better. I think a lot of people think because the new automatics shift so much faster, they're always going to beat a manual. Not around a track with a good driver. The autos may shift up fast, but when you need a lot of up and downshifts, the autos are too slow to react or won't hold onto the gear you want, in addition to the heat issues.

Guys you will not miss anything currently driving a c7 7 speed z51. I can count on 1 hand how many times in 10.k miles I have used 7 th gear...to many gears in my opinion....6 th is tall enough 7 th just feels like lugging...

I've never had transmission over heating issues but from my understanding is that the transmission in the C7 sits closer to the exhaust and people are suggesting it's the exhaust causing heating issues. However the A8 is quick in shifting so I could only imagine it would be better than my A6 in the ZL1, assuming the over heating issue could be solved.

I'm not disappointed about not having 7 spd.
However, I'm disappointed about not having Recaro. If Recaro is not available, I would want something like Competition seat in C7, but I guess it's not available either, at least at the launch. |

Why do you assume Recaro seats will not be available?

I assumed it's not available because they never showed it in reveal or on playbook.
When C7 came out, they were showing cars with Competition seats more than with touring seats. When ATS-V was shown, it showed ONLY with Recaro seats. (so many ATS-V guys thought Recaro would be standard, not an option because of that) Based on that, I would think they will show cars with Recaro/competition seats if they were available, but all the pictures I've seen are shown with regular seats. (I've seen actual cars here and there, but none of them had Recaro either) It's purely an assumption, and I would love to be wrong. |
