Yes, Jeep is a convertible. You can remove the front sections only and leave the rear roof which is pretty cool though. My thinking on this was an answer to why we couldn't have a Targa Top on a Camaro due to storage limitations.

When you remove the sections, where do you store them? In the trunk? how much room does that leave in the trunk?

I can't understand why some of the people here are saying they would prefer a T-top over a targa top. To me, they look like the exact same thing, but the Camaro wasn't structurally strong enough, so they added that bar across the top for extra rigidity.
In reality, GM probably didn't want T-Tops, they had to have them because the chassis wasn't strong enough to not have them, and now you guys all want them for nostalgic reasons even they are completely unnecessary structurally. |

In the Jeep, or hypothetically in the Camaro? In the Jeep I would put the split "targa" sections into the factory provided padded bags and store them behind the rear-most seat. In the Camaro, I would think they would fit in the truck with plenty of room left for odds and ends. I rarely carry anything in my trunk anyway.

There is a horizontal 'window shade' that has to be extended before you can lower the top. This ensures that there is enough room in the trunk for the top. This 'window shade' extends horizontally, thus limiting the vertical depth of the forward part of the trunk severely limiting the space left. The idea of having vertical space behind the rear seat make mush more sense. |

If you look at a Corvette with the removable targa panel it is designed to be stored securely via a latching system. This has been the case for at least as long as C4. Looking back to the C3 Corvette it had T-tops (oh wait..............you mean the Camaro wasn't the first car to have T-tops? Oh nose!!!!) and even those were stacked on the back with no where to put them. If you want a Targa, you want to be able to take them out and store the top somewhere. Take a simple measurement and see where you could securely store a one piece Camaro roof panel. If you are in a car like the Corvette, the panel is essentially stowed in the passenger compartment so it must be latched to meet certain G-load conditions. In the trunk would be ok, but a one piece roof won't fit. So T-tops have that advantage. Neither is likely to make it for the Gen 6. Too many problems with reduced structural rigidity and too many issues with storage of the top panels.

How I would love to have t tops or a targa top in the 6 gen, I don't see it happening. What I liked about the 4th gen was my Z28 had t tops and it had little slots in the trunk to store them in. That was pretty nifty.

I'm not a fan of convertibles, Targa tops, t-tops, or even sunroofs. I just like coupes. |
