He means road course. I also saw a statement from Chevy stating that making an auto that can track as well as a manual is very difficult and if you want to do heavy track duty, you should get the manual.

. I went from learning a 5spd to 6spd no problem. 3 and 4 are always in the "neutral" or middle position. Theres no need to put any left or right pressure between those gears. No idea how 7 gears works though.

Having driven the new stingray I can tell you 7th gear is way out there and the only way to shift into it is by trying to.

Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini have almost completely done away with the manual. These new auto's with the paddle shift are pretty much just like a manual. In traffic and around town the auto is nice, especially on the left leg. |

Not really sure what you're trying to say to me. I'm just starting what Chevy said. They said if you want to track the car, you should get the manual.

Someone who knows more about ATs than me can pipe in, but I think it comes down to the difference between a true "double clutch" AT (like the Europeans) vs a fluid based torque converter AT (like GM uses). I'm guessing that downshifting, even with paddles, in a TC based AT will not have the full "braking" effect that a manual will.

In regards to the most track capable GM car currently on the market the fastest variat is the 8speed auto.

I'm not sure either. I know a lot of people like the manual transmission, but they may become obsolete someday. I believe the Corvette C7R race car uses paddle shift. |

Can't really compare race cars to the production cars. Motor Trend just retested the Z06 and they state once again that if you will track the Z06, the manual is the better option. Chevy's words, not mine.
"That said, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter recently told Corvette fans the automatic transmission runs hotter and will go into a preservation mode sooner, so he recommends the manual for serious track duty or when the ambient temperature at the track is above 86 degrees." Also, wouldn't be surprised if camaro was stuck with a 6m instead of the 7m. I remeber the Cadillac ATS-V had issues fitting the 7m. Either way I would expect it to have both the auto-rev match and no lift shift features.
