As a current owner, I haven't gotten all that excited for the new one. As this is a fun street car, no track use, I can't see how a couple hundred pounds lighter could get me excited to lose a ton of money to trade up.

Besides, I like my car and I find it hard to believe that the next car can be so much better that I'll start to hate my 5th gen. A couple seconds on a road coarse or a few tenths at the strip ... don't care. A hundred hp is just a couple grand away, no need to upgrade. Just my useless ramble.
If this is true, it's totally unacceptable. I understand air gap systems to maintain secrecy, but redundancy is a necessity for this very reason. Which is worse, someone finding out your plans, or one building flood sets your work back a year?

How do you know that New York is the release?

Just a guess. My point is they still have time to make it a 2016. And even if it's not New York. They can still get it in by year's end.

Could have a short model year run for 2016? Think that is a definite possibility.
I haven't seen anything officially stating a 2016 model year. It could be a very short 2016 model year.

Hobbs....Not disagreeing with you, but I tend to look at this and think there will be a 2016 sooner than later....

Camaro a no-show in Detroit, but GM confirms a 2015 reveal
January 12, 2015

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...cars/21642897/

General Motors Co.'s Chevrolet brand confirmed Monday it plans to introduce next-generation versions of five cars this year, including the Volt, Cruze, Malibu, Camaro and Spark.

Mark Reuss, GM's head of global product development, confirmed GM would show new versions of the cars during 2015. The 2016 Volt was the first.

GM North America President Alan Batey said the Chevrolets will enhance what he called "the strongest product lineup in the history of the brand."

"By the end of 2015, 95 percent of the U.S. Chevrolet lineup will be all new or significantly updated compared to just four years ago," Batey said.

Chevrolet sold more than 2.03 million vehicles in the U.S. in 2014, up 4.4 percent.

Reuss said it wouldn't stop with cars and that GM's full-size pickups — new for the 2014 year —will continue to receive updates.

"Look for a lot of excitement, technology, everything on those trucks," Reuss said. "We're in it to win."

Reuss said expect to see some updates on full-size trucks, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, this calendar year.

2 min mark

The Image shown of the 5 new cars Chevy would launch this year at the Detroit show.

As a matter of fact, just take a quick Google news search and see if any news source has mentioned 2017 for the launch of the new Camaro. Every major news source says 2016. I just don't think there is any evidence to say anything but it will be a 2016 car.

They have announced that the Cadillac CT6 will be at the New York Auto Show. Would be nice to hear that the Camaro will be there as well. By not hearing anything about the Camaro makes me wonder.

In my opinion, yes, they have dropped the ball. In the current hyper-competitive, internet-savvy automobile marketplace, you've got to keep folks interested. You've got to throw out a few bones. Pre-release hype is part of the game now. If you want to have a vehicle that sells well out of the gate, you've got to build interest for months in advance. You want a car that gets people down to the dealership demanding to be put on a waiting list to pre-order it before there's even an order guide. Let's admit it. The Mustang had that in December 2013.

Is there ANYONE out there who is bugging their dealer to be put on a waiting list to buy the next Camaro? I seriously doubt it.

Sure, GM has put out the camo cars, and that's something. But after a while, they get stale. For the most part GM has played this one very close to the vest... too close to the vest.

Now, of course, some folks don't care and have the attitude, 'I'm in no hurry. It'll come out when it comes out.' Maybe these are people who aren't really in the market for a car in the near-future. Or maybe they're folks who are so loyal to the Camaro brand that they're not even tempted by competitive vehicles, and they're totally okay with getting little or no information about the car. And that's awesome for them... and for GM.

But then there are some buyers who are on the fence. Maybe they want a new car sooner rather than later. Maybe they're interested in the new Camaro... but maybe they're also tempted by the Mustang or the Challenger or a truck or a BMW or whatever. Maybe they've held off on those other vehicles because they first want to see what the new Camaro has to offer. At a certain point, some of these folks say, 'Screw it. I'm tired of waiting. I'm going to go ahead and buy something else.' And it's this group of people that GM risks alienating with their super-duper-double-secret-probation approach to this car.

Bottom line... I just don't think that GM has done enough to build interest in this upcoming vehicle.

Now, of course, maybe the new Camaro will be so undeniably awesome that when it does come out that none of this will matter. It will sell itself even with minimal advance publicity. That's possible... but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

yes they drop the ball big time... I saved enough money to get a SS but I hate the new face so much, so I have to choose between a used 2012, a new charger or a new mustang GT because, they decide to hide the camaro for no apparent reason.. so no fancy Camaro for my birthday after all my work.. thanks for nothing GM

Dropped the ball?

We're only a month into 2015. Obviously they're losing potential buyers that they could possibly stall out with some info/pics, but they have done no wrong.

One thing is for sure: The alpha-based CTS and ATS are excellent machines based on just about every review I could find and read/watch on the internet. Dont see how Chevy's apple could fall too far from the tree...

Nah. Actually it's because of the internet that you don't have to build up hype ahead of time or create a major media event. Word spreads like wildfire now.

The Dodge ad campaign was going for what, a month or two at the end of last year? Challenger sales went through the roof in January.

Same people that said the refresh wouldn't sell. Relax people. If you can't wait then go buy a Mustang or Challenger. The Mustang has a head start in sales for the month of Jan. Its a marathon not a sprint. The Camaro has been my dream car for as long as I remember. No way this delay is going to make me buy a Ford or Dodge.. Please!!
