Question for law enforcement about bicycle rules
I live in an area that has many bicycle riders. Many times I come on groups of riders sometimes with 30 or more . They will be on roads with speed limits of 30-45mph riding at less than 20mph. They will be riding 2 and 3 wide and will not get in a single file or space themselves out for cars to pass.
I want to know if they could be ticketed for impeding traffic flow for their actions. I have seen cars line up behind these riders sometimes 10 cars deep. Also when there is a bicycle path that parallels the roadway are they required to use it instead of the road. Thanks.

This is from NJ title 39
-14.2, 39:4-10.11 Operating Regulations. Every person riding a bicycle on a roadway shall ride as near to the right roadside as practicable exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction. A bicyclist may move left under any of the following conditions: 1) To make a left turn from a left turn lane or pocket; 2) To avoid debris, drains, or other hazardous conditions on the right; 3) To pass a slower moving vehicle; 4) To occupy any available lane when traveling at the same speed as other traffic; 5) To travel no more than two abreast when traffic is not impeded, but otherwise ride in single file. Every person riding a bicycle shall ride in the same direction as vehicular traffic. In New Jersey, the law states a bicyclist must obey all state and local automobile driving laws. A parent may be held responsible for the child’s violation of any traffic law. |

They go down my road a lot like that. I saw about 20 go by this morning, they had several cars behind them. It really gets bad in the summer.

I used to bike ride a lot for exercise. Had a mountain bike and would never want to be on the same road with cars. Those people are nuts or stupid to be on the same road as cars and trucks. They may have all the right in the world to be there, but get real.

Depending on what state you're in, a bike is typically considered the same as a car if it's on the road.
With that being said, they have to follow the same laws. AKA they MUST stop at stop signs, red lights, etc. This is an even bigger issue as bikers like to pick and choose which laws to follow as long as it benefits them.

Only difference being if a car hits a car, you might get a dented fender or broken taillight.
If a car hits a bike, you have a potential dead body.

You guys better never drive in DC cause you would be LIVID...LOL! Even though they have bike lanes they weave in and out of traffic, ride on the side walks, ride in front of vehicles slowing traffic down in already conjested areas....and if you hit one its your A$$ and they know it.

Wasn't talking about that, just many people in cars think they can ignore certain laws if it suits their needs just like bicycle riders.
