Why any of you put any stock in a lap time is beyond me. Exactly .001% of you will ever cross the threshold of a real race track. Even the VIR times are now BS since they repaved and widened sections of the track. C&D stated after the Corvette Z06 run by GM that GM used the curbs and widened sections that C&D stayed off of, but are now reconsidering for future runs.

For anyone who truly knows about road racing, this means all previous times are moot. Yay, Ford ran a great time. Until both are run same day same track, and same driver it is meaningless.

There is the link I posted earlier that said the Z28 did it on dry track of 7:31.9, so who do we believe?

Great point. Agree.

On another note:

In both of these GT350R vs. Z/28 threads; can't we just all agree that both are awesome cars? I think they are. I have no plans on parting with my Z but the GT350R is an awesome ride.

BTW, I'm gonna get out in the Z right now. I've got some very twisty roads calling my name. Still in the break-in period, but I'm loving this car!!!!

I think they're both awesome cars, just far too track oriented for my taste.

The Boss/1LE and GT350/ZL1 are what I'd be more likely to shop for if I didn't have the GT500. And realistically, I imagine that's the case for most buyers since so many more of them have been sold than the Z/28 (in regards to the GM side)

I can't play ball like a pro either but still love to follow football.

The rule changes in football favor offense more now than in the past. We still manage to factor that into our thinking when considering Manning, Favre, Montana or Bradshaw.

You can say the exact same thing about 1/4 mile racing. Great air and track conditions favor the guys on the fastest list but doesn't diminish their accomplishment. When a manufacture goes to set a lap time, they can run as many times as they want, on the days they choose.

When the first Z/28 lap was recorded it rained yet it was still the best lap Chevy had captured on film so they used it. That's a long track and one error blows the whole thing.

Yes! Ford builds some killer machines. Just not my type

As one of the articles already linked said the Z28 did it in 7:31.9, but GM isn't using that time because the cameras weren't rolling.

So...

HorsepowerKings just posted an on-board video of the GT350R running at the 'Ring - time was 7:32.19, but the car was sliding around quite a bit, looked like the track was wet.

Edit: For some reason the video is down (again) but Im hoping they will repost it shortly

Agree 100% and I'll take it one step further. 99.99% of those who own any of these muscle cars do not have the ability to push these cars to their limit. A well known member on this forum is kicking a lot of A$$ with a 1LE. I know my ZL1 is faster and better equipped but frankly he'd kick my a$$ too. So does that mean all 1LE's are now faster then ZL1's?

The best part of the GT350 is without the R IMO. The way GM should have offered his Z28; 2 versions, one cheaper for the streets and one another extreme one for the track. Who really needs thos Carbon brakes and aero, seriously? Its freaking cool, but way too much dough.
