What I'm banking on is the 6th gen V6 Camaro weighing the same or slightly less than the ATS V6. If so, then we should be GOOD to go! But if the ATS is using fancy weight saving materials and the Camaro V6 ends up heavier than the ATs, then we could be in trouble.

The SS needs to be in a similar weight range as the Mustang. GM doesn't have any excuses this time like the 5th gen and the Zeta II. The Alpha is designed as a light weight performance platform.

Personally I think a loaded V8 car will be 3800-3900 pounds plus easily. It's most likely going to be on a LARGER alpha platform than the ATS with a burlier drivetrain (Engine, trans, differential will all weigh more)
I own an ATS and I'd be very surprised that they'll mirror the ATS platform size in the Camaro. It's just too small for the segment. Just my two cents of course |

Why is everyone thinking the car will the weigh the same as the current car? That would be bad considering the new platform alpha which should lighten things up. If not, it's poor engineering on GM's side.

The S550 Mustang has a 107" wheelbase. The ATS has a 109" wheelbase.

I would not imagine that the Camaro will be larger than the Cadillac ATS. My guess is that it will be slightly smaller. A little bit lighter as well. V8 powered versions of course will be heavier. |

Don't see the Camaro being any smaller than the ATS. ATS sounds about right.. It's a bit narrower than the Mustang is actually, but it is a bit longer as far as wheelbase goes.

The 2015 Mustang is 2.9 inches wider than the ATS Coupe. If that translates to the interior, that is HUGE.
Wheelbase doesn't necessarily translate into the size of the car, although it is a strong indicator. Often, a coupe will run on the sedans WB to maintain the underbody.

The ATS is cramped and I'm only 6 feet 1 and 175 pounds. If it is that small (which I really doubt it will be...) it's going to hurt Camaro sales.
It HAS to be wider than the ATS at least. I drove the ATS for a year but found it too small. My wife is now driving the ATS and I am using our 2013 SRX while the ZL1 is in the garage for the winter. I just think people are going to be disappointed thinking it's going to come in at ~3600 pounds in V8 trim with any sort of options. It's going to be bigger than the ATS and have larger wheels and tires, heavier drivetrain etc. It'll still handle like a monster and have awesome performance, it just won't be massively lighter than the fifth gen. |
