M/T First Test: 2015 Corvette Z06

So Corvette Z06s are now in production with the vaunted LT4 engine. BIG numbers released by GM. How does it REALLY perform? Well, Randy Pobst had a recent opportunity to find out, running at Road Atlanta in a 7-Speed Stick.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1502_2015_chevrolet_corvette_z06_first_test/viewall.html

Notice, @ $105K+, this example is the typical "loaded" press version, weighing in at over 3500 lb. Notice, also, the #2 All-Time Production Figure-8 time of 22.5 seconds, 60-0 Braking of 91', and a 1/4-mile clocking of 11.3 @ 126.2 in the slower 7-Speed version.

1:30 laps @ Road Atlanta is hustling, too.

As a comparison, here's Car and Driver's take on the Z06, same locale.

Mother of god that thing just straight out flies. Tip the cap to GM, they made one hell of a machine. I loved this quote from the article, "The ZO6 is from the have your cake and eat it too department" haha.

Last I checked 11.3 is not the 10.95 GM said it would do lol, but I am sure the auto version will come closer

GM always said the 7spd would lag behind the auto. The 11.3 is really close to the 11.2 they quoted.

It's a great machine, and for over $100,000...it better be.

From what I got from the video, Probst was given the automatic to track with the stage 3 aero. The one tested in the video was the 7 SPD with stage 2 aero, hence the 11.3 quarter.

Check out the auto week article with Andy Pilgrim at the wheel. Bangs out a 1:29.8 at the end. That's faster than the Z/28.R that got pole position for the Continental Tires race and three seconds off of the slowest qualifier at the Petit Le Mans race this year. Absolutely incredible.

Looks like all that aero is hurting it's 1/4 mile times for sure. The track capabilities are amazing though.

Yeah, I think we'll see some faster 1/4th times from the plan Z06 without the any aero package.
