I hate this scam because I am a legit buyer and as soon as I offer Paypal, people freak out. I even had a local guy selling some high dollar parts. I offered to come pick them up and pay with Paypal so I could use my credit card. The guy called me a scammer and told me to piss off. People just need to learn how to use Paypal correctly.

I'm 60 and have been using the internet and social sites for a good many years and pretty much know the scam signs when I see them (nothing is 100%, of course). You are correct in saying suspecting everyone is foreign to me, or at least it was.

Most people my age were raised to trust people until they proved themselves unworthy of that trust. Now... it's pretty much just the opposite. It's a very sad reflection of today's society and people's lack of moral values. We are getting farther and farther away from the age-old adage of "The Golden Rule".

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

If everyone did this, we would have no need for all our laws, rules, regulations, etc..

My girlfriend is younger and in college. Some guy was pestering her to join this time share (though they didn't want to use the word time share), and she called me to see if it was legit. I knew immediately it was a scam. Before I talked to the guy, he was telling her to tell me how awesome it was, and that you could travel the world cheaply, and make tons of money selling these holiday packages (as he called them), as he was already making tons of money. I asked what the company name was, and she told me. I can't remember the name at the moment though.

Anyways, I did a google search, and one of the first articles I found was about a new lawsuit in New York against the company for fraud that the prosecutor of some city was doing there.

She gets tired of talking to him and he wants to speak to me directly. I tell him about the lawsuit and tell him to stop pestering my girlfriend about joining a fraudulent company....and that he should do a little more research on the company himself.

I've sold a couple of electronics items (an iPad and a Macbook Pro), and just met the people at a public place (a diner), and just accepted cash. Both times went fine.
