I think this would be a good idea for the v6's that don't want to get a lot of power, but for those that do, don't they need a new rear? As the v6 auto has a smaller/weaker rear than the manual v6 and SS? Would think it would just be easier to switch rears ends that already has posi and better gearing.

It is easier, but it is also costlier. My rear end swap wore me out in the wallet! This would also be good for those who don't want to worry about a peg-leg burnout. Not that burnouts are that big of a deal, but an open diff doesn't make you feel cool at the strip.
