Shift works sucks....

It has it pros and cons. Off 7 days in a row every month (obviously the best pro).

I'm upset that Camaro Fest will only be 40 mins away and I will have to miss it because I'm working days that weekend. Sucks!

Anyone else a shift worker?

I'm working nights tonight as a matter of fact. 12 hour shifts. We do a 4 nights, 3 off, 3 days, 1 off, 3 nights, 3 off, then 4 days...then comes the 7 day off stretch, but usually we have to cover vacations/sick, etc. So you never get a whole 7 days off usually.

Of course, there's vacations. Put some time in for vacation during that weekend.

I do work a weird shift as well. Every month I switch from nights to days and I work 12 hour shifts. Two on, two off, three on, two off, two on and three off.

I'm on the best shift offered, 10 hours Mon. thru Thurs. 6:30 am to 4:30 pm with possible overtime virtually every Sunday.

The next is Midnight to 8 am, 5 days, but if you're on this 8 hour shift, you can be "forced" two Saturdays in a row (2 on, 1 off) and you can be forced one hour overtime at the end of your shift. I worked this on days at my last plant, 53 forced hours a week got old.

Next is afternoons, Wed. thru Sat., 4:30 pm to 2:30 am. You are scheduled every single Saturday, all year long. I worked this for a short time, but every Saturday sucked. And you end up waking up so late Sunday, there isn't a lot of "family" time.

Last is Mon. and Tuesday 4:30 pm to 2:30 am, then Wed. and Thurs. off then Friday and Saturday 6:30 am to 4:30 pm. Yes, you work 2 days on afternoons and 2 days on days every week all year, and one day is every Saturday. Some guys are ok with it (if they can't work days) because they're home 5 nights with the family. But I have seen, over time, these people start to look like tired Zombies. It's just too hard on the body.

I use to, my last job I worked 4 10 hour days 1630 to 0300. Since I was the shift lead I was expected to come in a half hour before and stay till everything was done. Ended up being a 11-12 hour day. Days off were good though...Sunday, Wed and Saturday. Although most weeks ended up working Wed for the overtime. Now I am on easy street, Govt Mon-Fri 0700-1530.

Easy schedule right now for me. 0730 to 1630. But I'm on the hook on the weekends. I've worked 6 and 1s working 12 to 14 hours. I feel your pain working crazy hours.

Calling in sick is not an option, neither using vacation days. They are precious, I will just have to suck it up.
