Reaching out to H-Town Camaro Club members!
Dear H-Town members.. I am a member of the San Antonio Camaro Club and am planning a weekend trip to Houston to catch a football game at Reliant the weekend of 1 December. Since I am not to familiar with the Houston area, I did a quick internet search and was surprised that pretty much all of the hotels around the Reliant area had less than stellar reviews. Since It's hard to tell if the negative reviews are legit or not, I am asking you for some local insight on what areas are safe and what areas if any I should avoid. Can anyone recommend any newer hotels in the area where my Camaro will be safe while I am at the game? Any hotel that provides transportation to the game is a plus, but if that is not available I have no problem taking a cab. One last thing... I am not worried about the hotel price and while I have always been a Marriott member I really don't have any problem staying at another hotel so long as the rooms are nice and the parking lot is safe. So where would YOU stay if you were going to catch a game? I appreciate any insight my H-town bothers and sisters can provide.
Thanks and Cheers!

Yes the area around the stadium is not the most desireable. You could stay at the Marriot in the Medical Center district on Fannin st. just North of Reliant. There is a train that runs every 10 min and goes straight to the stadium and back so you could leave your car safely tucked in the parking garage. The train goes all the way to downtown so if you find a hotel there you could do the same.

Houston Cars & Coffee is early Saturday morning if you're interested in that too.

Thanks for the insight MLEE and Kris10's $ponsor!
I would love to meet up at cars and coffee saturday morning but by the time I get there it will probably be over. I plan on leaving san antonio around 10:00 saturday morning and figure the drive will take close to 3 hours. Perhaps we could meet up for late lunch or dinner.. Does the H-town club have anything scheduled besides cars and coffee on november 30th? How far downtown does that train run? Are there other nice hotels along the train route?

Hello,

How often do ya'll have Cars & Coffee?...I am planning a trip to Houston in the upcoming weeks and was just wondering if it would fall within my dates.

I've been to Houston many times, but it's been about 2 years since my last trip, so I'm a little rusty with the area. Thanks

I believe there are hotels along that route, it travels down main street All the way through downtown.
My friend and I may be eating after around 10ish. Not sure yet. Anybody is welcome to join.

I thought you were talking about this weekend. Nov 30 is not a cars and coffee day as it is every 1st Saturday of the month. Sun up til 10 or so. But on the 1st Sunday there is a smaller one but big for the Camaros up in the Woodlands every 1st Sunday but you will be at the game. But I can almost guarantee you we will be hanging out somewhere on the 30th. Probably Mikes Fast Automotive.

The train is just one track from Downtown Houston to Reliant Stadium. Straight up and back. Little walk around the Astrodome to get to the stadium but lots of tailgate parties to stop by on the walk. There are quite a few hotels downtown like the Crowe Plaza, Hilton of Americas, and others.

Every 1st Saturday and the one in The Woodlands every 1st Sunday. After The Woodlands one the Camaros always cruise somewhere for lunch.

You all can check out all the local stuff at www.h-towncamaroclub.com The home page has the major events and then in the Forums we have a street meet section with all the places we will be. Something every weekend and usually more than one. Let us know and we'll roll out the Camaro carpet for you when you come.

Thanks to all who chimed in with info.
I made my reservation yesterday and actually got to talk to the manager in charge of the hotel valet parking. He agreed to reserve one of 3 VIP parking spots in the main lobby for me that weekend which I thought was pretty nice. My wife on the otherhand thinks we should take her car because if it gets a door ding she won't care... We are looking forward to the game and getting a chance to check out The Galeria. Thanks again to all of you!
Cheers!
