That's pretty much how I view it. I always say a tablet is a supplement to a computer not a replacement. But now the whole tablet And laptop thing are blending together

Now that we have that established. What is important to you? Speed and power or weight and size things like that. I'm assuming your talking about a windows computer right? And lastly price range?

Edit: just so you know recently I have evalved a few different computer so I know what is around today. But most of the computer I have used have been in the 700-1000 price range

That's how I feel. I don't think I could have a tablet function as my laptop. I like tablets and all but I'd still be more comfortable using a laptop for big things and a tablet for things like browsing the internet (doing it on my phone was killing my battery), watching videos, and little things.

I would look into the Lenovo X1 carbon. I had that as a evaluation unit for a few days and really did like it. There where some things that I didn't but overall I found it better than its dell and Toshiba counter parts I had. Hp makes a similar device but instead of being carbon fiber it is aluminum and I ultimately thought that was a good device also. I can not comment on the Long term of the device though since I only had them for under a week.

We're getting those for our company soon. Nice little laptop.

Really, as long as you don't get a Dell or anything with an AMD processor, you're provably getting a pretty decent machine. If you DO get a Dell, get the smallest one you can, for ease of insertion into toilet later on.

I have a buddy who's a senior developer for ARM and he told me an old joke about this topic :

When companies make chips, they put them through quality control. The best ones get sold to Apple, Samsung, IBM, etc.

The decent ones get sold to Toshiba, HP and the like.

The rest go in the dumpster and Dell comes to pick them up.

Just out of curiosity have you messed with the dell XPS 12?

If you ask me they are very overpriced when you add all the good stuff but overall they haven't been a bad laptop compared to most things dell puts out.

I have not. I'm sure they're capable of making a decent machine but like you said, once you get there you're way over any other machine.

I have to say, my Samsung 7Series has been a phenomenal machine. TB hard drive, 8gb RAM, i7, ssd for cache and fast start, backlit keyboard... Not to mention it looks better than anything else out there. One complaint is it's heavy, but I can live with that.

On a side note, I'm hobbling around like a gay sailor. My legs are gone. Tried to do too much too quick after not being able to go to the gym in nearly a month.

Yea I have played with a few samsung laptops and they have been great but I can't really say how good since I haven't had them for a long term. My uncle just got a HP laptop that is pretty nice for a great deal. Believe he got a i7, 8gb of ram, TB HD, and a decent video card for a little over 700 shipped.

Good luck, my cat loves sleeping on the car. I hated it at first but now I just kinda deal with it. I just try not to startle it so that it won't cause scratches.
