Traded in my 2012 2SS Camaro Vert
Guess I'm out of the family guys :(
Loved the car but it just didn't make sense for my 38 mile commute. I was burning over 500 dollars a month in gas and tire wear. On warm months its great but I do live in Iowa. My boss gave me the thumbs up on charging at work. I'm spending nothing on gas at current temps and will be spending very, very, little in winter. I know I'm gonna take some abuse...but for commuting I am really liking my new Chevy Volt. Looking at 2016 camaro as 2nd car down the road or a Tesla as all in 1 car.

If you can charge at work, you have a great set up. That will give you enough range to get back and forth in the winter. I know they've improved since launch, but when I had some seat time in the cold, I was only getting 25 to 30 miles depending on the heater usage.
The Volt is a great car. You'll love it. Did you get one of the really low leases?

Purchased new. It's a 2013 with premium trim, saftey 1, Upgraded Bose sound.
First new car ever. 0% APR Ally Bank 7500 tax credit I also made myself quit smoking 4 days ago. Wife quit too. That alone saves 700 / month with my work insurance incentive. They bumped the range a little on 2013. Made 38 miles with 10 to spare at 55mph.

Also my insurance company wanted 30 more a month for the Volt vs the Camaro SS. I switched to Progressive and pay less than half of what I was paying, with GAP also. Buying a volt to save money doesn't normally make sense - unless you already drive a 30k plus car that eats premium gas and tires. In my situation it was the perfect storm.

I get the high costs of the SS, it’s not for everyone. Good luck the Volt is an interesting car.
