It's sad to see a human being leave this earth, especially when it's something he was passionate about. Bless his family in these sad moments.

RIP. This is the risk you take being a racing driver. As sad as it is, he went out doing what he loved.

Truly a sad thing to go out like that, however, he went doing what he loved. We should all be so blessed.

These have to end in motor sports! I know we are trying, but it's not good enough. What about those crash warning systems on some road cars? Would those be helpful somehow in racing, albeit with some alterations?
Racing is an inherently dangerous activity. Like skydiving, white water rafting, or any number of other things. You do everything you possibly can to make it as safe as possible but every time you strap in you have to accept that there is a chance it could be your last. The amount of time and effort spent on safety is on par with the time and effort spent on performance but when you put a human is a 2500lbs box and send them flying around at 200+mph science only goes so far. Fatalities in motorsport will never be eliminated.

This. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the team.

I was watching this race on speed and do every year but I record most of it and skip through commercials. Yes its sad that the driver lost his life but I think more could have been done to prevent such a hard hit, Every driver that speed seems to get a interview with mentioned something about the wreck or driver and that the track could be made a lil safer with maybe safer-barrier walls and what not. Basically the car went through the Armco guardrail and into a tree and at high speeds like that no matter how safe the car is that tree doesn't move much if at all. I Hope that next year we will see something like tires or safer-barrier walls at some parts of the track that don't have it now.

I will bet next year they will have tires or something like that at that turn. With racing, it seems like we have to lose someone for things to get safer. The HANS device didnt become mandatory til after Dale Sr. died, and F1 didn't really start putting tires in front of bare concrete walls til after Senna died.

It's unforunate, but yes that's usually how we get safer equipment. I think part of the issue is that designers can't foresee every type of crash and sometimes only find out about deficiencies after it costs someone their life.
