definitely, not saying the car is trash because of the years. It's more of a reliability thing with getting that car when you don't know how it was driven or up kept. 17 on a car you don't know is asking for trouble especially after you drive off the lot with it. I wouldn't pay 17 for a questionable car.

so what is the issue, he wants a badass car and only has 17k to spend
the ls2 has 400hp compared to the v6 camaros 300ish, and has way more torque, they aren't even in the same league. I do agree the camaro looks better, but some people gots to have a v8.

so , I would say if you're happy with the looks over the v6 camaro then do it. It's just like picking a 13 lt v6 camaro or a 2013 v8 5.0 mustang . I like the looks of the 13s but not over having the camaro

well looks is the biggest thing. The only thing is the v8 performanc for me on that car and the name. GTO looks are missing. G8s are a different story because g8s wasn't nothing but a car with a v8 no muscle ties

I had an 04 GTO before my Camaro and I loved it... I would have kept it had it been a manual. The 04 had the LS1, but it was still a lot of fun and very comfortable! I'd love to get another GTO, but it will be an 05/06 this time. That seems like a pretty decent price, and the miles are just ok, but I guess you have to realize that it is 7 years old so it's probably about avg now... There is quite a bit of aftermarket parts available for them. Body parts, and interior parts may be a bit of a problem down the road, but I'm sure someone will come up with something by then.
My 04 Ls1 Auto would get about 25mph hwy, and about 17 in town. You'll want to ask how many keys it has, and has been though... The keys are sealed and you can't replace the battery in the fob very easily (without destroying it) and IIRC the BCM can only learn 5 keys, but can't forget old ones, so once you hit 5, and need another the BCM will have to be replaced. *I THINK* I may be wrong though, that's just what I remember... I was looking into having easy to take apart CNC aluminum key fob bodies made to the battery could easily be changed and you'd never have to worry about the BCM problem, but lost interest in it. A lot of people get "mad" about it being named a GTO, but just over look the name. It's a nice, fun, comfortable car. |

Price is high for a '06 with 73k miles. I've seen several with less than 50k miles going for $15k.
I wouldn't go there. I only have 59k miles on my Camaro, and I know how hard they were put on. I use my driving style when I look at odometers and judge the miles that way. Imagine YOU put 73k on a 400hp GTO. Now, would you really want to spend upwards of $15k on it? I wouldn't. Take your time and find the right car. Otherwise you'll be looking again in a year and loose more money on the deal. GTO's are a lot of fun and most of the guys that had them, did so because they were fun. I'd bet the miles were put on a lot harder than those on a 73k mile Prius. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn't waste any more time on this. It appears by his avatar info he's already bought the Goat. Why? I have no idea.
Dealers could hardly give them away around here when they were new. There was a brand new one at the local Pontiac/GMC dealer that sat for 16 months before someone bought it. And the price was marked down to 25 or 26K on the windshield. So yeah, 15,500 was a great deal for the SELLER. They had an LS engine in them, that was about the only decent thing they had going for them because if it came with a V6, I'd bet no one would even look at it. Can't say that about the Gen 5 Camaro. Either V6 or V8 is acceptable.

There is no reason to bash GTOs or used car buying. GTOs didn't sell because they were a dead brand. Everyone I know that's owned them enjoyed the power and ride. Secondly, there are not abundant GTOs with low miles floating around. There are only 114 on autotrader in the US with less than 60k (cheapest 16.5k btw). Price is pretty close but always seek to drop it a bit. Best thing is to take it out and see how it feels. Can't tell how you'll like a car any other way. I'm surprised how many assume an older car will break down. You'll have to do any routine maintenance, but its not necessarily a time bomb.
The one piece of advice that's always gold is to be financially sound before buying. Save the cash up because good, clean used cars will always be there. You never know when a guy who'd planned on keeping a car decides suddenly the new Vette is for him. |
