It all boils down to which state you live in, mood of the judge, your prior record if any, if cop shows up.
A good friend of mine got a ticket for 125 in a 55(was probably going faster) in MD many years ago. Represented himself, cop didn't show up, no fine or penalties imposed.
If the state or area you live in is known to come down hard for things likes this it may be wise to get a lawyer.

Sometimes the judge will proceed even if the cop doesn't show up...

On a side note, I don't see the problem with occasional speeding if done away from other cars or people on big straight roads, only possibly endangering yourself.
What I can't stand is reckless driving that can effect others!
To the lame-o's putting the OP down for speeding, come on like you've never in you life sped on a public highway?! I would expect comments like that on a Prius forum...

There is nothing in that situation keeping you alive, the asphalt, guard rails, your car, etc, none of them are set up to take a wreck at those speeds.

Go to a track, put on a helmet, and go as fast as you want, and pay less than the ticket, and stay alive.
THIS.

Guard rails and all that are meant to save the people around you, aka the ones that aren't being dumbasses. They're not there to protect the person driving like an idiot.

Take it to a track and show others how cool you really are.

yeah here in CA triple digits is a misdemeanor traffic offense, the officer will show up because the D.A. will get the case and subpoena the officer, if he doesn't show he will be held in contempt.

So the hopes that the officer doesn't show isn't an option, because even if his schedule prevents him from showing, a deposition will be taken, and since it in the hands of the D.A. it won't be Citizen vs. Officer, it will be citizen vs. the court.

Bummer and not surprised!
SoCal is nice but doesn't sound like a good place for auto enthusiasts with regard to the law...

Long story short he pulled me over for exceeding 100mph limit (101) and gave me a ticket with a mandatory appearance in court.
Is there a chance that Judge will allow me to take traffic school to get rid of the points on the license? (even though that going over 100mph adds up 2 points without a possibility to correct violation?)
How should I approach judge in this situation? What should I say? This is the first time I was ever pulled over in the US and I feel very stressed.
Help please.
Get an attorney, in VA you would have been arrested. That is a misdemeanor offense punishable up to 1 year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

all depends on whether or not you obey the law..

I've had issues, nothing that wasn't my own damn fault.. you live, you grow, you learn..

I have no issues with things as they are, there is plenty of love for auto enthusiasts that choose to follow the rules, regardless of how back-ass-wards and asinine may seem.

That's not how it works here in Norcal.
As far as the officer is involved, it just another traffic cite. Officer gets a subpoena indicating the violator has contested the violation. No DA, misdemeanor, deposition or contempt involved.
Case dismissed if the officer is a no show. $800 fine and 30 day suspension of the violator is found guilty. End story.

Okay, so it works differently in different states.... you're still dumb if you're going that fast. Save it for a track.

Pay an attorney to deal with it, or just face the music and make this the only time that you have to go through this.

be thankful you are still alive, no one was killed, and it's only fines and fees.

these types of things USUALLY lead to drivers changing their habits.

Most people are extremely afraid of getting points on their license because then their insurance can be tripled. you are either wealthy or you are a high risk taker (young).

If you can afford it, I would let the attorney deal with this completely. If they can drop it down to 95 maybe u can take defensive driving....
