Would you believe that after the first year of the MII that "Cobra" actually save the brand name? I know when they introduced those that was all you saw a "Cobra" or plain jane was all that was on a dealers lot

Im guessing new mustang will weight 3300-3500 pounds but still.
Would much rather them stick to v6s and v8s
Hear a turbo 4 sound out of a Mustang or Camaro is going to be hard to get over for myself lol Call myself ignorant just being honest
I'm sure it will be a big of a dog compared to the V6 until you get into boost (negating any or all fuel saving). I don't buy 4 cylinder cars though so I wouldn't know.

What I do know though is I can't wait to read all the Exhaust threads about "Why does my Camaro sound like a weed wacker" or "Why do the V8 guys say my car isn't a Muscle Car" I think the last one speaks for itself though. The oppressed V6 owners will be able to join in on us V8ers all laughing. It will be like a evil, evil family

My second Mustang was the blue 1979 2.3L Cobra like the one in this pic (borrowed from Internet). Fun car with M4 and 130HP but no challenge to a V8 with 143HP and higher torque. Loved to hear that little turbo whine.....Amazing how the numbers have changed..... Wish I still had it for nostalgia ....

I understand your point completely. And I agree with it! What one does in the spirit of one-upsmanship...benefits the consumers of the other as that company attempts to return fire with a better model.

For example - if not for the Camaro's LS3 out of the gate...The Mustang people may not be enjoying a 400+hp 5.0L. And alternatively, without the existence of the GT500...Camaro fans (quite like myself ) may not have had a ZL1 option to buy...So I get it - very clearly.

My point was simply that some others truly "Don't give a crap" what Ford does...A Camaro, of any performance or design, would be purchased by these people as though Ford didn't even exist. It's a small population, I think, but they're there, and they're proud regardless. That aspect I can relate to: I don't need the "best", I need a Camaro...but I appreciate the results of this back-and-forth between Ford and Chevy.

My wife drives a VW Tiguan with a turbo 4. It feels great to me....not sports car great but then again its not tuned for power.

You have to keep in mind that on these turbo'd cars the boost comes on early. Usually by 2,000 to 2,500 rpm these things are making 90% of their max TQ and they carry that until around 5,000, to 5,400 rpm.

For instance...here is the turbo 4 in the ATS:

I had one of those, white with maroon stripes, put the 351 out of my 73 into it. Fun car, wish I had it back.

I can tell you i was completely shocked how good a 4 cylinder 2.0 EcoBoost can sound!!! I actually find I enjoy the sound more then my V6 Camaro! The 4 cylinder just doesn't have the rasp!

Of course you KNOW I had to have Scott put a MRT exhaust on my ST! LOL

I have the 2.0 EcoBoost in my Focus ST. Yes, it only has 250 HP but is has 270 ft/lbs of TORQUE! And it's down load torque! There is no turbo lag! Every time I drive this dang car I find myself say, "This is a Focus?" LOL!

Here was my dyno from stock 2010 V6 Camaro:

My dyno sheet from the ST with just a simple axle back. Unfortunately this is on a different dyno... but it was another DynoJet. Eventually I'll get the ST dyno'ed at Alternative Auto (with a tune!!!)

The bad thing about the ST is it's wrong wheel drive, so try to do a hard launch is incredibly challenging! But once it's rolling, WOW! Definitely pulls harder than my Camaro... hard to remember but I'm thinking it pulls harder than my 2002 Mustang GT..

And the 2.0 EcoBoost is detuned from the factory... not as much as the 3.5 V6 EcoBoost but the gains are still there with a tune for the 2.0 EB. I would imagine the 2.3 EB will have some power left on the table for those guys that want a tune and are willing to run premium fuel!

Should be interesting to see how the 2.3 EB plays out!

well I am sorry, to me its all about the sound and styling. I wouldn't be happy at all even with a 450hp 4cyl because I would puke listening to it when I get on it!!
