Back in Nov I had 4 $30 charges from an apple store. Luckily I disputed these and my gm MasterCard reversed the charges (apple later refunded) and issued a new card. Then at the beginning of feb I got a call from gm card asking to verify charges. Someone was pinging the card for $0 to see I it would work. They cancelled and issued a new card. Very wierd but so far so good since getting the new card

Maybe it's a bit different depending on where the charges come from. It's probably more obvious that there was fraud if I live in Illinois and within a span of 2 days my card had charges in California, Utah and New York as opposed to someone living in Nebraska and they were claiming fraud charges in Nebraska.

The point is, I didn't have to file a PR, but ya I could see how it'd be wise for documentation purposes.

I love our Life-Lock. Someone tried to steal my wifes identity and did get a few accounts opened. They cleaned it up and put a 7 year fraud alert on both of us with all three credit reporting companies. No one can get credit or open an account without talking to you and knowing the answers to a shit load of security questions.

So, at first thank you very much for all your replies.

For now I have bought a Visa Prepaid Card.

Therefore I have a new question now.

I intend to order only at Camaro5 sellers from now.
How are my odds that the sellers will accept this kind of credit card?

A Visa employee said to me that especially in the U.S not all sellers accept this kind of card.

Everybody loves having credit cards rather than cash. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has released a brand new study about credit reports. It found, among other things, that charge card activity is the solitary most important element examined by credit rating agencies when figuring out credit worthiness.

All you can do is a little research on a company and if you don't feel good about it go somewhere else. Post a thread on here from now on asking if we've done business with someone before you purchase.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have never had any problems using a prepaid Visa or Master Card any where. Online or in person. I get these all the time as gifts from my parents. After 45 years you'd think they'd know what I like.

Consumer financial protection bureau

I'm sorry to hear that! When you unexpectedly lack of cash, the best thing to do is to obtain cheap credit rating. However, there are a lot of dishonesty when it comes to money these days. Apparently, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has gone on a bit of a tear with lawsuits against charge card businesses, nailing Discover and Capital One a few months ago. American Express has joined the ranks, settling a suit with the CFPB and other agencies and agreeing to return $85 million to consumers.

Like Home Depot or Target.......because fraud cant happen with a company that large and secure.

Hmmm... seems like a lot of bother (and ew, go to Walmart?).
My bank backs me - if someone were to put on a bogus charge, my bank would credit me back.

Maybe establish a good relationship with your credit card issuing banks..?
Avoid debt cards.
Get credit cards that give x% cash back. I'm on a 5% back and I buy everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) on the card and then I pay in full every month. I rack up hundreds of free dollars this way. It pays to be smart with money.

My credit union will refund any fraudulent charges as long as you report them within 60 days. I check my account at least once a week because it happened to me a couple years ago. Someone was using my card number and bought gas at several places in one day and they also bought some tires, all this was in another country. We still don't know how they got it. The Credit union gave me a new card and refunded all the charges which amounted to almost $900.

Someone got my credit card number from PAYPAL. I immediately dropped their service and got a new card. NO paypal from me - I use USPS money orders.

Can I ask how you know they got it from PayPal?
