He doesn't speak for me, and not all of us Gen X people fit his stereotype. Just sounds like C7 envy. He mentioned Lambos and Ferraris were things we drooled over. Those cars were still outside our purchasing range and the things old dudes with money drove with chicks mimicking Madonna riding shotgun, and I never thought of them as something I would own (did have a few chicks who looked like Madonna ). I was happy with my 66 fastback. He can go have a nice hot cup of STFU.

i may not know enough to agree with the whole article, i can attest to the part where the writer describes advertisement appeal to people my age... we don't get caught up in the hype and we are not as brand loyal as some of us were in the 50s and 60s.. especially when your fundamentally believe in certain ideologies about business practice and government involvement.. you tend to "write off" certain things because it's hypocritical, fake, phoney, overstated, etc..

It's not so much Gen X that drives boring cars, its really the Millenials. And thats if they drive a car at all.

"As automakers increasingly try to market their cars to young drivers they will find themselves fighting over a shrinking percentage of teenagers who want to drive.

General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler are all vying for a larger share of the youth market with cars such as the Chevy Sonic, Ford Fiesta and Dodge Dart.

The percentage of 19-year-olds in the U.S. who have driver’s licenses dropped from 87.3% in 1983 to 69.5% in 2010, according to a study conducted by the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute.

“It reflects mostly the increased use of the Internet,” said Michael Sivak, research professor and the head of the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute. “The virtual contact that is possible through electronic means is reducing the actual physical need of contact among young people.”

Sivak also said the difficult economic times during the recession contributed, making it more difficult for younger people to buy and maintain cars. Also, more young people are moving to large cities where public transportation reduces the need to drive.
Meanwhile, the percentage of people with a driver’s license who are 70 or older has increased from about 55% in 1983 to 80% in 2010.

The age of a driver greatly influences the type of vehicle purchased in terms of both cost and vehicle class, according to the study. It also has implications for the kinds of features and amenities that the buyer is looking for."

The points raised could be applied to every sports car ever made.

Kids in college in the last 25 or so years have been brainwashed for the most part into believeing cars like the Camaro and Corvette are evil and are the cause of all our environmental problems. Unfortunately as more and more of these brainwashed individuals get in policy and law creating positions then the harder its going to be to have true performance cars as we know them to continue to exist. California seems to rule the rest of the country when it comes to these new laws. And one look at the best selling car in Califorina in 2012 will show you the plans they have for the rest of us.

Best selling car in California for 2012
Toyota Prius.

The Corvette will remain the car of middle class older men and young single men with lucrative jobs or trust funds. $50+k for a two seat car that can only be driven in summer is not the kind of thing a person buys if he has a wife and kids and college loans to pay off. The C7 will attract more upscale drivers, but the market for two seat sports cars is still limited. Porsche, Lambo and Ferrari buyers will not want to be seen in a Chevrolet. A potential market is in the developing world where the Corvette will be seen as being on par with the Europeans, and when driven will be equal or better than the others.Name: 039.jpg

It's still the best high performance bargain on the planet if you consider the improvements in performance and the interior. The base model alone is still an amazing driving car because the platform has been perfected over 50 years.

This C7 will out perform anything even remotely close to it in price, and many cars costing 2 to 3 times as much. I think it's the one car America makes that shows we can go toe to toe, if directed properly, with any country, making cars. Erik
