Happy Saturday all!
50* overnight in Phoenix, what the hell? ![]() Gotta pack for my trip to Maryland this week. It's a work trip, not vacation. Looking forward to visiting family and friends while I'm there. Hope it's not too cold for a top down cruise to the Pavilions. Only going up to 64* today.

Since I've had time to cool down, I can tell my story....
First, the names of all the players, so you know who's who. Steve, the salesman, Leonard, the manager, and Todd, the painter. When I went to get an estimate on the leather, door/dash panels, and ABL, Steve tells me "We've done that before, you're going to LOVE it. We found a brand of LED that's a true red, it's brighter than the factory ABL, and it's just going to POP!" Then, when I drop her off to have the work done, Todd is in the office with the LED package, and Steve tells him "When the door panels are done, get me, I've done the LED before, and I'm the only one who knows how to do it right." Fast forward to the day I pick her up the first time... It's still light out, so you can't see the lights. Steve says "I've seen them, they look great, you're going to love it!" and then he leaves. I'm not so sure, so I hang out and chit chat a while, waiting for it to get dark enough to see.... BARELY visible.... Leonard tells me to bring her back, we schedule a time. I was angry then, but I trust the shop, know that they'll try to make it right. I go back in during lunch a couple of days later, planning to give Steve a piece of my mind, but he bolted out the back door when I pulled up (chicken....) So, I talk to Leonard about it a bit, he says the other one they did with the ABL and painted door panels was barely visible too, and that Steve didn't fix it, Leonard and Todd got stuck with it, and they still weren't happy with the results. Wouldn't that have been nice to know in the first place?? Steve's outright lies about the past experience, and how it was going to look just pissed me off more (he IS a salesman, though.... they do that) I drop Ladybug off a day early, since I decided to add the paint on the bezels, and am told it should be done Friday. I go in Thursday during lunch to check on progress, and make sure I can get her Friday, and have a conversation with Leonard and Todd that pushed me over the edge in pissed off (not at them, still at Steve for lying about it in the first place)... They show me the door panels, talk about options... First of all, it's not painted from the inside - when Todd started prepping for that, removing the silver from the door panels, Steve told him to stop, and paint them from the outside. He did the whole "I'm the only one who knows how to do this" BS line to Todd too.... Todd said stripping the silver was a pain in the ass, so he went with what Steve said. So now, the door panels need to be stripped on BOTH sides, and re-painted from the inside, and it won't be done Friday. I say "I'm going to the Caribbean next week, and I want my car safe in my garage while I'm gone..." Todd tells me "I've seen you at car shows, I know you want your baby to be perfect, and can't get even close to perfect that fast" - and he's genuinely apologetic about the promises that were made to me. (Todd did all the other paint on Ladybug, too - he thanked me at a show for taking good care of his artwork...) We talk about leaving the door panels off, letting me take her home to store her safely until the panels are done, but I need to think about that... Side note... during this conversation, Leonard says "You're pacing, I can tell you're really pissed off" Uh.... yeah, and I'm holding it back, too.... "You know we'll do our best to make this right" Yup, I do, I have no doubt about the integrity of the shop as a whole, or any doubt in Todd's abilities. Still pissed at Steve for lying to me. So.... I go back to work, and my heart is racing I'm so mad. I send an email to Leonard and ask him to call me at work. he does, and puts me on speaker with Todd in the room, and I say "I'm really worried what the door panels are going to look like with paint stripped off of them. Won't that dull the finish?" In all likelihood, yes, and even clearcoat might not correct that. So, we talk about options, and I decided to just bag the ABL altogether - put her back together, and I'll pick her up Friday. Now - had Steve told me from the get-go that paint and ABL color change aren't a good combo, that either/or is better, and given me a chance to think about it, then it would be no big deal. But he made the choice for me, by lying to me... Debated going to the owner, demanding they buy new door panels and start over, but wanted to see how she looked first - live with it a little while... I was worried that I'll drive at night and get angry seeing no lights, but she does look great, so I've calmed down a lot. Knowing that Leonard is no longer allowing Steve to sell the paint/light "package" anymore makes me feel a little better too.... nobody else will have to deal with it in the future. After going out with Maggie and Gary last night, I noticed a faint glow on the passenger side.... so I pulled over, and sent a message to Leonard asking if they left the LEDs in... They did - the red ones. So, Gary, the mad scientist, is gonna brainstorm to see if he can come up with something to thin the paint along the edge, maybe I can get ABL afterall....

![]() Sounds like you did go through a maddening ordeal with Ladybug. Maybe they got a little over their head with this? They have acknowledged you show Ladybug, which is good. Remind them participants will be asking about the door panels, and it will be up to them what your response will be.
