Next to taking a man's life, the worst thing you can take from a man is his freedom. That dealership is lucky the guy only asked for $2.2 million.

From the story:
"The lawsuit, which alleges malicious prosecution, slander, defamation and abuse of process, seeks $2.2 million in damages." That doesn't include punitive damages, which a judge/jury can add to any of the above damages if the dealership is found at fault. The guy might well make alot more than the $2.2 million. I hope he does. You cant put a price on a man's freedom. How many of you saying $2.2 million is too much have ever been arrested and jailed? And of those, how many of you were arrested only because someone lied to the police about you? |

maybe the dealership matched another dealerships price without checking it until after the sale.
that would warrant a call to the police i would say. either way, to sell a vehicle 5k less means there is some serious markups happening at that dealership.

the link is broken... also, the police share some fault as well because if he purchased the vehicle he would have a reciept showing payment.. if the payment was disputed by the dealer, the only thing that could have happened was the dealer taking him to civil court.. when police arrest, they are taking a suspect into custody after charging them with a crime.. the suspect had a legally binding contract for the purchase of the vehicle, he didn't drive off the lot without paying.. in Louisiana, civil court only goes up to $3,000..

Most people don't realize, every time you are arrested even if your charges are dropped immediately... they show up on background checks by employers and every time police stop you. You have to get those charges sealed and removed every single time... and some charges you cannot remove, some states also restrict how many times you can seal your record. I believe in Florida you are limited to as little as 1-3 times, but I have no experience dealing with that. If he walks away with anything less than 1 mil from this dealership, I would be shocked. We aren't talking about a person or city who is on a tighter budget.. we are talking about a privately owned business where the owner took responsibility of allowing this to happen.

It happens all the time. Everyone lies at some point..and everything happens for a reason. A 4 hour in jail is worth handing him millions? be smart about it. I'm not saying it was a good thing just citizens feed off these things and blow it out of proportion to get paid one large lumpsum..

You're right. It happened to me 3 times just this week.
When the police officer is defending the guy over a bs arrest, that ought to tell you something. Like he said, it's gonna cost this poor guy alot more than just 4 hours of annoyance.Again, have you ever been arrested? And if so, was it because someone lied about you to the police? |

I didn't mean every day the week just it's so common now just the other day a cop shot his son to death by mistake he was playing a prank. Casualties, misleading information, and police brutality won't stop but, it can be prevented.
Like i said it happens all the time atleast he wasn't harmed maybe scared and confused but, If he feels he can get millions out of the situation more power to him he can buy an entire dealership
